NCA is now seeking an advisor working with our Climate Smart Economic Empowerment (CSE) Strategic Initiative.

The aim of CSE is to contribute to sustainable development by helping empower marginalised people to lift themselves out of poverty while building a resilience towards climate change. This strategic initiative is therefore focusing on creating opportunities for a sustainable supportable income generation in agriculture, livestock and fishery while absorbing work forces into activities contributing to food security. The advisor will in addition support in fostering marketing systems and strengthening linkages with industry players along the value chains to create sustainability of the agriculture sector which dependent on robust business development services that contribute to creation of effective and efficient value chains. It also supports job and entrepreneurship creation outside the food sector. In urban areas or IDP or refugee settings, we will support action such as vocational training, short-term skills training, and through cultivation and acceleration of entrepreneurship ideas.

In this role, you will help develop and quality assure of the initiative within the NCA’s Global Program Framework for 2022 – 2030. You must build strong partnerships across all areas of the organization and with colleagues at all levels, domestically and internationally. You are inclusive and bring the out best in those working around you.

The position is based at NCAs Office in Oslo in the Department for International programmes, Division for Eastern Africa. You will also be a part of the thematic team and work closely with several of our country offices.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure quality for NCA’s global strategic initiative on CSE
  • Support county offices’ work on thematic programme quality, development, and capacity
  • Mobilise funding, including contributing to proposals development, in cooperation with country offices and country advisors
  • Promote and facilitate innovation, strategic development, political analyses, and learning
  • Ensure global results reporting on CSEE
  • Ability to have a good business acumen to identify new opportunities for business linkages between producers, and lead buyers to support access to and participation in high value markets that enhance productivity and value of products
  • Contribute to active learning from work processes in the interface between head office and country office and contribute proactively to digitalization processes in NCA
  • Strengthen the overall quality of NCA’s global program / strategic initiative on relevant thematic area
  • Provide support for Country Office on thematic program development, quality standards, capacity building, and results management
  • Promote and facilitate innovation, strategic development, political analyzes and learning on relevant thematic area
  • Contribute to income generation / funding
  • Contribute to internal and external communication in relation to thematic area
  • Global-level focal point for thematic area (only for those that are elected as Thematic Hub Coordinators and those who represent a thematic area by default)

Qualifications: formal and personal

  • Degree in Economics, Business Management, International Development, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation or in other related Social Sciences
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant work experience preferably with partnership work and capacity building
  • Report writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written. Norwegian and French is an advantage
  • We think you are by nature Opportunistic, one who can identify where the program can grow and form new partnerships
  • Solid understanding and background of Economics-Business-Agricultural Economics engineering
  • Experience in value chain development and market access related, and/or analysis/research of agribusiness and/or socio-economic development projects.
  • Understand Emerging Markets
  • Structure, can keep a desk clean, keep track of cases
  • Climate Principles/SDG/ESG understanding
  • And then you are a person who has good humour, easy going and charismatic
