Civil Engineering Intern (Airport)

We are currently seeking an Airport Engineering Intern for the Airfields Service Group in our Charlotte, NC office.

The Airport Engineering Intern will be mentored by airfield engineers on our team based in Charlotte, NC. The selected candidate will assist in the design and construction of runways, taxiways, terminals, Federal Aviation Administration Navigational Aids (FAA NAVAIDs), airport lighting systems, and a variety of airport support facilities. This contributor will work on a wide range of airport projects that combine innovative airside and landside design with a strong knowledge of technical standards to exceed client expectations and provide cost-effective solutions. The successful applicant will gain experience in long-term airport planning, detailed engineering design, and construction administration. Engineering design elements will include grading, drainage, pavement geometry, and construction phasing. This is an amazing opportunity to obtain hands-on experience and a better understanding of airport design and the aviation industry.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering plans with the use of computer-assisted engineering software, including AutoCAD.
• Review construction shop drawings and develop construction solutions
• Perform calculations requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles
• Prepare and revise engineering design drawings
• Collect, prepare, and analyze data
• Observe construction in the field

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at an ABET-accredited university
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously
• Interest in working on aviation projects

Preferred Qualifications

• 2.5 GPA or above
• AutoCAD experience
• Specific interest in airports and the aviation industry
• Desire to pursue a career in civil engineering and/or airport engineering
