Job Summary
Hospitality Services is responsible for the planning, coordinated development, management and implementation of food, nutrition and environmental activities, programs, services and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long term care facility.
You are responsible for assisting the cook in preparing all food served, including general menu, special diets, meals-on-wheels, and Day Care Resident’s meals, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement. Work is performed in accordance with Public Health regulations, Ministry of Long Term Care Act, 2007 and Food Premises Act.
Education And Experience
Completion of Assistant Cook apprenticeship program of 3000 hours
One year of experience in an institutional kitchen setting or related organization
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Assistant Cook 415B
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the Canada Food Guide, Ontario Public Health Act (Health Protection and Promotion Act: Food Premises), Ministry of Health Long Term Care Act 2007, Food Premises and the “Sanitation Code” for Canada’s Food Industry.
Preparation of bulk food
Preparation and cooking of vegetables, meat, fish and poultry, soups and sauces
Elementary dessert preparation
General knowledge of buffet preparation
Preparatory methods of entrees
Food Inventory Control
Knowledge of safe operations of kitchen tools
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

What You Need To Know
Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a Declaration of Offences and Misconduct form.
