As Cigarette Design Engineer, working within the Product Portfolio Management & Deployment sub function reporting to Manager Product Management. The position will be based in Neuchatel, Switzerland.

As key responsibility you will propose and implement cigarette design modifications to ensure compliance to specifications, legal requirements, and taste consistency.

Lead cigarette development and deployment projects, using proficient PMI cigarette knowledge, flavor, and blending knowledge and project management techniques to ensure projects are implemented according to briefs and all requirements.

Your ‘day to day’

  • Control product specs alignment to appropriate regulations, guidelines, and quality standards. Produce product specification documents and ensure alignment to compliance, quality standards, regulations, and optimal manufacturing performance. Prepare reports &/or presentations for communication.
  • Based on root cause analysis, research and analyze relevant data, identify causes, and implement corrective actions to ensure Product Smoke yields are in line with Specifications.
  • Define and implement testing and trial protocols, acting as the primary contact point for product design and design troubleshooting to provide vital recommendations and/or corrective actions, and thus ensure the product is verified and validated.
  • Complete Resourcing and Commercial Projects. Ensure that project information supplied is realistic with respect to cost and timing to avoid financing problems and delayed completion; Provide accurate and properly scoped data to the successful completion of the project. Communicate and develop networking with partners (customers, suppliers) to facilitate efficiency in the project rolls out.
  • Plan and lead the execution of the project phase and ensure the delivery of expected functionalities within the agreed time, budget, and quality. Monitor and regularly assess the project progress and escalate the issues to the Project Manager on a timely basis to agree on a common solution.
  • Coordinate and prepare samples / prototypes for evaluations and ensure appropriate analytical and subjective testing.
  • Coordinate, collect, review, and analyze analytical and subjective results to propose appropriate action plans for the next steps of the project. Make data-based recommendations related to project brief, communicate to partners, and take appropriate next steps.
  • Carry out all the activities above ensuring that PMI Compliance and Quality Systems Policies (Design control/Change control), standards, and laws relating to these activities are fully respected, integrated and understood by partners.
  • Ensure full compliance with local legislation and company policies and practices.
  • Adhere to all Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) rules, policies, and practices. Pass through appropriate EHS trainings, apply received knowledge at work.
  • Inspect and use personal protective equipment as appropriate. Keep assigned work areas clean and orderly. Take an active part in EHS programs. Inform the superior immediately about all violations of EHS requirements, take appropriate measures for their elimination!

Who we’re looking for

  • College/University degree or equivalent in a scientific/technical area (i.e. Engineering, Chemistry, Agronomy…).
  • Good related experience in tobacco industry
  • PMI CC Portfolio understanding

  • Regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Manufacturing process and OPEN+ knowledge
  • Developed computer skills (MS Office, PMI Specs and monitoring systems, etc.)
