Chief of Party Rehabilitation – NEPAL

Handicap International - Humanity & Inclusion

Handicap International/Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is an independent and impartial international solidarity organization, which intervenes in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflicts and disasters. Working alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, it acts and speaks out to meet their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. More info: www.hi.org

HI is committed to an employment policy in favour of disabled workers.

JOB CONTEXT:

The epidemiological transition from communicable to non-communicable diseases (NCD) contributes to increased prevalence of disability and general increases in the need for physical rehabilitation services throughout the life cycle, globally and in Nepal. While rehabilitation needs are growing in Nepal, the capacity to address remains limited. Physical rehabilitation services are mainly provided locally, including by five private physical rehabilitation centers (PRC) supported by USAID and by international organizations such as Humanity & Inclusion (HI), with limited coverage and sustainability.

Physical Rehabilitation Activity (PRA) is 5 years program funded by USAID which is aiming to integrate rehabilitation service in the Public Health System. This program started in June 2019 and is working closely with government authorities, Disability People Organizations (DPOs); physiotherapy unit in District hospitals; private rehabilitation services providers and rehabilitation professional associations. The physical rehabilitation activity (PRA) project supports the establishment of a sustainable, integrated, public-private rehabilitation system in order to improve the mobility and functional independence of persons with physical disabilities and other individuals in need of rehabilitation services.

The project has three objectives: (1) the quality of rehabilitation services is strengthened, (2) access to rehabilitation service is increased and (3) sustainability of the five existing USAID/HI supported PRCs is strengthened.
