The Chief of Party (COP) is the overall leader for Save the Children’s five-year USAID-funded MaMoni Maternal and Newborn Care Strengthening Project (MaMoni MNCSP) in Bangladesh. The project focuses on strengthening the systems and capacities of government of Bangladesh and its partners to accelerate the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality in the country. This senior leadership position provides the overall strategic direction in the design, management, implementation, monitoring, overall quality assurance of the project, and adjust project’s activities when necessary.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

This role will also provide technical assistance on maternal and newborn health and quality of care, especially in the public sector. This role is also responsible for managing COVID 19 emergency project component under MaMoni MNCSP program. The COP is Save the Children’s primary point of contact with USAID, MOHFW, consortium partners and all relevant stakeholders. This position collaborates with the Ministries of Health and other critical partners to provide high-level support for effective capacity building at the local level and sustainability of the project interventions. The COP oversees a team of experts and support staff, prepare reports and annual operating plans, align project initiatives with in-country priorities and ensure the program is compliant with USAID and Save the Children’s regulations. The project is designed to align closely with the current objectives of the Government of Bangladesh so that activities are complementary and create sustainability.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years working experience with at least 7 years of experience in senior management position with solid/visible contribution in strategic planning, policy and MNH and research;
  • Advanced knowledge on MNH sector policy and programs, the situation of the country, clear understanding of Government’s policy as well as Donor’s perspective in MNH sectoral issues;
  • Knowledge and techniques of staff and financial management, including USAID requirements, is essential;
  • Demonstrated expertise at leading and managing large-scale and diverse teams;
  • Excellent leadership, advocacy and interpersonal skills with expertise in program and staff management and capacity development;
  • Technical skills of program designing, supervision, monitoring, evaluation and research is required;
  • Relevant competences for coordination and strategic decision making are desired;
  • Excellent communication skills (both in Oral and Written) in English and Bangla required;
  • Excellent presentation skills including policy briefing and skills on process facilitation and coordination with high standard.
  • Self-driven; strong ability to drive the technical and programmatic directions in Newborn Health with MOHFW and other relevant stakeholders with minimal supervision.
  • Prior experience as Chief of Party or Deputy COP
