Job description

Still I Rise, an international NGO, works towards development and the realisation of humanitarian projects aiming at providing education and support to refugee children and youth, is looking for a Chief Human Resources Officer. The selected profile will be responsible for the development and implementation of the HR strategy in support of the overall organisational plan and the strategic direction of the organisation. The CHRO will be specifically responsible for the areas of compensation, talent acquisition and management, change management and performance management, and training and ongoing development of Still I Rise’s resources.

The ideal candidate will also provide strategic leadership to the executive team and board in terms of the organisation’s human resources needs and priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, administer and supervise Human Resources activities across all programs and departments
  • Develop and implement operational and strategic HR planning
  • Design and implement the development of HR policies, procedures, and best-practices, in coordination with the relevant departments.
  • Develop HR forecasts, lead on implementation and monitoring of departmental budget, with ability to provide justifications for budgetary recommendations and/or adjustments
  • Establish and operationalise human resources initiatives that effectively reflect, support, and promote the mission and strategic vision of Still I Rise
  • Develop HR plans and strategies to support the achievement of the overall organisational operations objectives
  • Acting as a strategic advisor to the CEO & executive team, alongside individual teams and departments, providing strategies and critical vision as well as innovative solutions concerning key organisational and managerial aspects
  • Develop comprehensive strategic recruiting & retention plans to meet the human capital needs of strategic goals
  • Develop and implement comprehensive compensation and benefits plans that are competitive and cost-effective
  • Act as referral point for all staff, while advising on the most complex and sensitive concerns and issues and providing tailored solutions
  • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, compensation and benefits globally
  • Support the legal department in handling any claim arising out of employment relationships within SIR

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • A BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university; MBA or MA/MS in human resources or related field is preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of HR experience, with at least five years of executive HR experience and at least five years of international HR experience
  • Solid understanding of and experience in managing contracts within the Italian labour market and employment laws
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge in employment contract-management in different jurisdictions, as well as to navigate issues of international employment (i.e. consultancies).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage budgets and compensation plans

  • Proven experience in recruitment, talent acquisition & retention (platforms, channels, techniques, strategies & best-practices, relevant documentation, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Full working proficiency in English and Italian, with at least one additional language amongst Spanish, French, and/or Arabic
