Chief (f/m/d) Deutsche Welle Lebanon Office

We are seeking a Chief (f/m/d) Deutsche Welle Lebanon Office for Programming in Beirut as of June 1, 2022 or as soon as possible on the basis of a two-year local staff contract.

THE ROLE

• Serve as Chief of the DW Lebanon Office and Correspondent for both Arabic and English Services
• Management of the DW office operations in Beirut including financial and HR management
• Current journalistic reporting and commentary (in Arabic and English) on events in Lebanon and the region (politics, economy, culture) for all Deutsche Welle channels
• Live coverage (in Arabic and English) incl. live programs, talks, interviews and broadcasts
• Review and approval of stories in line with the Beirut office guidelines
• Design of background programs about Lebanon and the region
• Development of the cooperation with other DW editorial teams
• Representation of DW at Lebanese authorities in all matters relating to the office

DESIRED PROFILE

• Relevant university degree as well as completed journalistic training or equivalent qualification
• Long-standing professional experience in journalism in the news, politics and economics fields
• Ability to analyze political and geostrategic contexts
• Good knowledge of the political system in Lebanon as well as the social, historical and political development of the region; previous experience in the region an advantage
• Native-level proficiency in Arabic and English as well as proficiency in German, knowledge of other DW broadcasting languages an advantage
• Understanding of the processes of the news department and/or planning department of DW, especially with regard to working with correspondents and reporters
