International Justice Mission

Summary

Lead and expand the Australian arm of International Justice Mission, a growing, Christian international justice organisation, which aims to end modern slavery.

  • Play a critical role in expanding IJM Australia’s advancement work across APAC
  • Utilise your revenue generating experience to scale IJM Australia’s impact
  • Build strong and sustainable alliances within Australia

The organisation

International Justice Mission (IJM) is the largest anti-slavery organisation in the world. IJM’s mission is to protect people in poverty from violence by rescuing victims, bringing criminals to justice, restoring survivors to safety and strength, and helping local law enforcement build a safe future that lasts. IJM Australia was established in 2014 as a development arm of the global organisation, providing much needed funding for the intervention of justice, advocacy, and community partnerships to end modern slavery in the 23 countries around the world, that need it most.

Modern slavery numbers are at a record high, with over 50 million people believed to be living in slavery globally. One in four of these victims of modern slavery is a child, and the human trafficking industry is estimated to generate US $150 billion annually. IJM is building a global movement in citizen security where governments own and deliver unprecedented justice and protection to the poor, marginalised and vulnerable.

IJM has an ambitious 2030 vision to rescue millions, protect half a billion and make justice for the poor unstoppable. IJM Australia will play an important role in this 2030 vision by scaling to a $40 million organisation, by building strong and sustainable alliances with Australia’s churches, federal government, corporate partners, and like-minded philanthropic trusts.

This intended scale will play a critical role in expanding IJM’s advancement work across Australia and the Asia Pacific region, and motivating IJM’s partners across businesses, governments, faith communities and international development organisations to champion IJM’s proven model of change.

The role

The next CEO will be an experienced Christian leader with a proven track record of leading a multi-disciplinary team on a journey of exponential growth, scale, systems change, advocacy and policy reform.

A seasoned executive, the CEO will have experience generating strong and relevant corporate partnerships in addition to engaging government and leveraging national policy to ensure these critical human issues are addressed and funded.

The CEO will understand how to engage with the Christian Church and the philanthropic sector in Australia and will have a network of trusted advisers that can connect IJM into meaningful partnerships with values-aligned trusts seeking to have an impact on human rights and freedom.

Finally, the CEO will model IJM’s spiritual formation rhythms and cultivate a culture of joy, transparency, accountability, spiritual and relational health, integrity and disciplined execution, fundamental aspects of IJM Australia.

IJM holds strict safeguarding principles and a zero tolerance to violations of the Safeguarding Policy, Protection against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment Policy and Code of Conduct. Parallel to technical competence, recruitment, selection and hiring decisions will give due emphasis to assessing the candidates value congruence and thorough background, police clearance and reference check processes.
