- This is a summer position with a start date of June 9th and an end date of July 31st.
Position Summary
To provide challenge course programming in a manner consistent to State of Michigan Licensing Rules, GSUSA Guidelines, GSSEM Safety Activity Checkpoints, and ACCT Policies and Procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- To incorporate opportunities for teaching courage, confidence, and character during daily interaction with campers and staff.
- To become familiar with the age groups served and to organize and administer activities at the initiatives and challenge course areas as appropriate for each age level.
- To establish and enforce challenge course procedures in accordance with all applicable guidelines.
- To tie in the curriculum of activities to enable participants to earn age appropriate levels of Girl Scout recognitions, when applicable.
- To provide challenge course related skill builder programs for campers that will allow them to progressively develop new skills.
- To direct and supervise the challenge course instructors.
- To serve as a resource for program groups in the area of group dynamics and teambuilding.
- To insure that all equipment is inspected for safety on a daily basis and requests for repair or replacement are directed to the assistant camp manager promptly.
- Supervise and follow systems of safety checks of equipment and facilities prior to each use and secure facilities against unauthorized usage.
- To take responsibility for the storage of all related equipment.
- To maintain a properly equipped first aid kit at all times.
- To maintain accurate record keeping as related to current ACCT and course operation procedures.
- To take an active role in pre-camp training including providing a challenge course orientation session to staff.
- To clean and organize challenge course supplies and equipment at both the start and end of camp.
- To record daily happenings in a logbook to be turned in to the Camp Director each evening at closing flag.
- To reside at camp and provide support for cabin groups as needed.
- Lead or assist with other programming as needed.
- To assist in the office, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be an adult, at least 21 years of age with current instructor certification from a nationally recognized ACCT accreditation provider or experience in Challenge Courses and able to attend training.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
- Be able to evaluate challenge course skills at all levels and teach lessons.
- Good judgment in anticipating and preventing accidents.
- Be able to act calmly, quickly, and give and/or follow directions during an emergency.
- Previous experience in a management or supervisory position.
- Experience in teaching youth activities is required.
- Knowledge of safety practices as applicable.
- Must be ready and able to communicate well with girls and staff and be flexible about programming options.
Essential Requirements
- Become a registered member of Girl Scouts of USA
- Hold the minimum certification of CPR and First Aid
