Casualty File Record Reviewer – DBS

Your Job will involve recall of files to our offices from central holdings and following a process agreed with the National Archives, sort the files into date order ready to enter details of each file onto an Excel database. After an introductory period, you will be expected to complete accurate entries onto the database of a given number of files per week. There are some complex files which may require you to corroborate information from reference books and or research information from the web including liaison with a number of public institutions. An important aspect of this role involves swift interpretation of information from these historical paper records, extracting the data in an abbreviated manner transferring the information to a database following a format agreed with the National Archives. The successful candidate should have the ability to prioritise their own work and responsibilities’ and work well as part of a small team, have excellent organisational and administrative skills. The successful candidate should be IT literate with a working knowledge of MS Office applications and be a confident and competent user of Microsoft Excel.

This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Casualty File Record Reviewer in the DBS Record Review Team. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to a finite Project team requirement to process a number of records until they are complete. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 23 months after that date. You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 23 months). At the end of the posting you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.

If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan. At the end of the loan you will return to your home (OGD) department.
