BACKGROUND:

Global Support and Development (GSD) is a humanitarian organization whose mission is to rapidly respond to disasters in collaboration with at-risk communities and support them to prepare for future disasters. We value collaboration and seek opportunities to amplify the work of others in-country, both in preparation for and in response to disasters. By integrating our team’s diverse skill sets and resources into local responses, we are able to provide rapid response assistance to affected communities in coordination with regional and country-level partners. We also work to build local capacity through community-led preparedness initiatives. GSD’s priority Area of Engagement is currently Latin American and Caribbean, with targeted support to the South Pacific (and expected future increase in operations for 2024 and beyond).

This position is part of the Partnerships and Programs department which is the driving force in partnership development and programs focused on preparedness and disaster risk reduction.

The Partnerships and Programs Department is housed in the Strategy Section and is comprised of Information, Planning, MEAL, and Communications. The Partnerships and Programs Department supports GSD in developing and maintaining external relationships that allow GSD to achieve its mission.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Global Support and Development (GSD) is a growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Caribbean Programs Manager works closely with partners and cross organizational colleagues to design, development and delivery capacity strengthening and sharing programs that enhance partner preparedness and disaster risk reduction. The Caribbean Programs Manager works with the Director of Partnerships and Programs in GSD’s Strategy Section, subject matter experts across GSD departments, and partners to advance disaster preparedness which is solution-focused and local by design.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Design, develop and deliver disaster preparedness and risk reduction projects, programs and supporting activities alongside partners and key internal stakeholders across departments including the Director of Partnerships, Caribbean Partnerships Manager, Capabilities and H/V experts.
  2. Disaster Preparedness and Risk Reduction Needs Assessments and Planning: Work with local and regional partners to design country- and community specific programs that are aligned with local needs and acknowledged capacity gaps, and maintain local autonomy and promote sustainable solutions;
  3. Program Development and Delivery: Work with GSD’s Capabilities (Access, Rescue, Medical, Communications, UAS, GIS, Maritime and WASH) and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop and deliver high impact capacity strengthening and sharing projects and programs that are responsive to local needs and acknowledged gaps;
  4. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including within GSD’s Strategy Section, to envision and align long term priorities and translate those into detailed capacity strengthening and sharing engagements with key partners and stakeholders;
  5. Work with the GSD Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Manager and within the GSD MEAL framework to ensure delivery of accountable initiatives dedicated to delivering impact;
  6. Represent GSD to partners and communities, and in regional forms to advance preparedness and risk reduction best practices and lessons learned
  7. Promote and action humanitarian principles and GSD’s core values of accountability, humility, and integrity in all work we conduct;.
  8. At all times promote good stewardship of financial and other resources to achieve maximum benefit to those impacted by disaster or at risk of impact;
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Experience:

  • At least 5 years progressive work experience in the non-profit sector, at least 3 years of demonstrable field experience in humanitarian and/or development settings;
  • Proven experience in developing disaster risk reduction programs from conception through implementation;
  • Desirable lived experience in the region.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Risk Reduction, International Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, International Development, or related field – OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
  • Masters of Public Administration (MPA) or a degree in a related field is desirable.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work with partners and translate shared objectives into operational delivery and, at times, respond quickly to changes in short-term priorities;
  • Ability to identify and build processes required to support effective partnerships;
  • High-level communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including presentation ability;
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide array of stakeholders to build relationships;
  • Discernment for confidentiality in relation to organizational, partner, and donor activities and communications;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, develop schedules, consistently meet deadlines, and attend to details;
  • Experience working and/or traveling domestically and internationally;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish or French required.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • At this time, GSD is not offering sponsorship and is only accepting applications from persons eligible to work in the United States.
  • Estimated 50% annual domestic/international travel
  • GSD is currently using a hybrid work schedule and supports working from home on a limited basis in the short term with a transition to the HQ location expected in the next 3 months.
