Capacity Development Coordinator

As the Capacity Development Coordinator, you will be responsible for the development and management of UNOY’s capacity development program and activities. UNOY’s capacity development program is driven by the network’s 5 year strategic priorities and the needs of our member organizations. Our main capacity development activities consist of online and in-person training courses for our members that are often implemented by UNOY’s Pool of Trainers. As the Capacity Development Coordinator you will be supported by the Projects Officer, who you are also responsible for managing. You will be supervised by UNOY’s Co-director for programmes. The position will include regular travel within Europe and beyond.

You will be responsible for:

1. Programme management

  • Management, design and implementation of regional online and in-person training programs for the UNOY network including:
    • Liaising with Network Coordinator and Regional Coordinators on the needs of participants;
    • Drafting concept notes and carrying out needs assessments;
    • Recruiting and supervising consultants (trainers, facilitators and experts);
    • Providing creative input on program design;
    • Maintaining communication with participants;
    • Coordinating logistics of the online and in-person meetings and trainings;
    • Monitoring the progress of the activity through a monitoring and evaluation plan and other relevant tools;
  • Coordinate UNOY’s Pool of Trainers including:
    • Day-to-day coordination of the Pool;
    • Coordination of the workshops organised by the Pool for the UNOY network;
    • Coordination of the recruitment of new trainers in September 2022;
    • Leading ideation sessions on the structure and activities of the Pool;
    • Coordination of the design and implementation of the Training of Trainers that should take place in January/February 2023;
    • Identification of trainers’ needs and stimulation of peer learning and increased feeling of community among the trainers;
    • Promotion of the Pool to external partners;
  • Coordinate UNOY’s involvement and activities in the Youth Excel consortium including:
    • Attendance to the consortium meetings;
    • Providing support to staff implementing Youth Excel activities;
    • Facilitating sessions on intergenerational dialogue for adult stakeholders;
    • Providing creative input as requested;
    • Monitoring activities and reporting to the donor;
    • Together with the Partnership Coordinator and Co-Director (strategy) decide the strategic direction and involvement of UNOY in Youth Excel activities in the coming years;
  • Implement and shape UNOY’s capacity development strategy.

2. Programme oversight

  • Ensure administrative and reporting requirements for capacity development projects;
  • Support the coordination and monitoring of UNOY’s peer support group;
  • Support external projects with partners including the Young Peacebuilders Programme in Latin America;
  • Support the dissemination of projects’ results within the network and externally, including the dissemination of our toolkits and resources.

3. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL); Fundraising; Budgeting; Organisational Development

  • Lead monitoring and evaluation of capacity development activities;
  • Draft capacity development budgets with support from the Financial Coordinator;
  • Support fundraising for regional activities, with the support of the Partnerships Coordinator;
  • Develop UNOY’s travel policy.

4. Human Resources

  • Recruit, supervise and provide guidance to the intern assigned to support the capacity development programme;
  • Recruit, supervise and provide guidance to trainers and consultants contracted to carry out capacity development activities.

You’re great for the job if you have:

  • A relevant undergraduate university degree in peace and conflict, international relations, development studies or a related field;
  • At least 2 years of work experience (paid or unpaid) working within the fields of peacebuilding, human rights, youth, or other related fields;
  • Excellent project management skills and experience designing and implementing online and in-person trainings and events preferably for youth and in the field of peacebuilding;
  • Strong facilitation skills and familiarity with non-formal learning methodology;
  • Excellent relation-management skills, including strong leading/coordination skills and intercultural communication skills;
  • An inclusive and participatory approach to dealing with people and a proactive attitude to your job;
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
