The Opportunity

Save the Children International works in more than 120 countries worldwide including 20 countries in Asia to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, protection from violence, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in times of disaster and conflicts.

Save the Children also advocates with and for children nationally and globally. We aim to influence governments, international institutions, the private sector, and the general public to help realise children’s rights and ensure that their concerns are heard and addressed.

As part of our work, Save the Children is addressing the climate and nature crisis, which represents the biggest threat to the lives and futures of children. This includes supporting young activists to develop and implement their Red Alert campaign on the climate and nature crisis, as well as implementing related projects such the My Forest Child initiative, which supports reforestation and activities to help climate-vulnerable communities.

The post-holder will support the development and implementation of such initiatives in Singapore, especially the Red Alert campaign, as well as contributing to related activities around the region. Tasks will include: conducting outreach with Singaporean youth and children interested in environmental activism; contributing ideas and solutions in internal discussions; helping to organise internal and external meetings and events; supporting the design, production and dissemination of campaign and communication materials; analysing Singapore’s role in the climate crisis and related advocacy opportunities; fulfilling administrative tasks.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to climate campaign and project-related discussions and planning
  2. Conduct outreach activities with Singaporean youth interested in climate and environment activism
  3. Help organise climate campaign and project-related meetings and activities
  4. Create or contribute to developing project and campaign materials
  5. Provide administrative support to Save the Children’s climate and environment-related work
  6. Represent Save the Children in advocacy and outreach activities as appropriate

Output expectations:

  1. Rapid research as needed, documenting relevant information and opportunities for external activities,
  2. Develop a youth-friendly summary analysis of the climate policy and advocacy context in Singapore
  3. Drive the development of a Singaporean Red Alert youth network
  4. Administrative and logistical support for organisation of external activities as needed
  5. Supporting the planning and implementation of climate advocacy-related tasks, including those linked to regional initiatives
  6. Compiling relevant information, helping to create educational materials, checking quality of videos and images, proof-reading and editing of documents etc.
  7. Sharing internal news and announcements, organising internal meetings, taking meeting notes, filing documents and materials online, etc.)
  8. Effective representation of Save the Children’s positions and messages in advocacy and outreach activities

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred but not essential if applicant has relevant professional experience.

Required competencies:

  • Technical –
    • Ability to conduct online research, identify relevant, credible sources and extract relevant information quickly and accurately
    • Good project management and coordination skills
  • Managing resources – Organizes and manages information well.
  • Communication –
    • Strong English communication skills (especially speaking and writing)
    • Effectively presents data and information to colleagues.
    • Listens well to instructions and feedback.
    • Can customise high quality written and oral communications to external contacts and audiences
  • Good interpersonal skills – able to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and show initiative.

Expected Guidance and Support/Developing Opportunities:

Regular guidance/support is available from supervisor.

Training/coaching opportunities are periodically available.
