JOB PURPOSE

Türkiye is a priority country for Amnesty International’s global Protect the Protest campaign. We are looking for a Campaigner to lead on the implementation of impact-oriented campaigns for human rights in Türkiye, working with the organisation’s sections across the world including in Türkiye; build global solidarity with and for individuals at risk relevant to the Protect the Protest campaign and responding reactively to broader human rights violations and abuses.

ABOUT YOU

An enthusiastic, and strategic campaigner with experience of leading human rights campaigns with innovation and impact. You’ll be familiar with the human rights issues facing people in Türkiye. You will use your innovative and creative campaigning and communication techniques to inspire sections and activists, collaborate with partners and appeal to new audiences across the region. Excellent communication skills in English is essential and Turkish is highly desirable so you can generate motivational campaign materials that connect with a range of target audiences as well as inspire those you work with.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To lead international campaigning on human rights in Türkiye, in particular contribute to the Protect the Protest global campaign for which Türkiye is a priority country.
  • Assess opportunities for action, identifying creative and effective campaigning tactics to ensure effective participation and mobilisation opportunities and undertake campaign-related research into targets, tactics, and activities with other organizations or other interlocutors as relevant.
  • Provide advice to sections and structures and external partners in the region on the development and implementation of campaign strategies; review campaign projects developed by sections and structures to ensure consistency.
  • Monitor and analyse political, human rights and civil society developments in Türkiye to make recommendations for campaign development, actions and on-going work in pursuit of campaign objectives; participate in field work in order to develop and deliver effective campaigning strategies.
  • Manage projects. Monitor and evaluate delivery, prepare information about planned activities for scheduling and resource management purposes; identify necessary adjustments in the planning and implementation of projects and workplans; prepare and monitor project budgets and reports.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience leading, developing and delivering campaign strategies and managing projects at national and international level;
  • Excellent understanding of strategic campaign methodologies and development tools.
  • Knowledge of Türkiye and the human rights situation.
  • Experience of writing motivating and inspiring campaign materials for a diverse range of target audiences and of communicating campaign messages and organisational positions effectively; working knowledge of other European languages and Arabic is desirable.
  • Ability to undertake desk and field research to gather information relevant to the development of campaign strategies, the identification of campaign targets and objectives, target audiences and constituencies or other aspects of effective campaign implementation.
  • Awareness of issues of social justice, equality and fairness and an understanding of equal opportunities issues and willingness to apply in work. Ability to work in multi-cultural environment with appropriate sensitivity to differences of culture, gender and physical ability.
