Founded in 2002, TRIAL International is a non-governmental organization that fights impunity for international crimes and supports victims in their quest for justice. TRIAL provides legal assistance to victims, conducts investigations, brings cases to court, strengthens the capacity of local actors and advocates for human rights.

TRIAL is currently looking for a translator from Swahili to French or English for a translation project.

  1. YOUR MISSION

You will provide legal translation services under the supervision of the Legal Coordinator of Accountability for Private Military and Security Actors project.

This service will be provided at TRIAL International’s premises in Geneva, with the possibility of carrying out some of the work remotely.

The service involves the translation from Swahili into French or English of three videos, each lasting respectively 90 minutes, 98 minutes and 120 minutes. A very brief Swahili transcription exists for the three videos and can be used as a basis.

The translator must be available from February 1st 2024. The service must be completed by February 20th, 2024 at the latest. The translator must be available to come in person to TRIAL International’s offices in Geneva between February 1st and 20th, 2024 for the number of days required.

  1. TERMS OF REFERENCE

As part of a project to combat impunity, TRIAL International is seeking the services of a translator to translate a series of videos and related documents.

  1. YOUR PROFILE
  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in translation, interpreting ;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar position;
  • Excellent oral skills in French/English and Swahili (familiarity with Swahili from Eastern DRC an asset), very good knowledge of legal vocabulary;
  • Ability to work reliably and discreetly, availability and respect for deadlines;
  • Previous work with NGOs and/or international organizations, preferably in the field of human rights, is an asset;

The translator must hold a work permit valid in Switzerland and, if possible, have recognized freelance status. Organizations can also submit offers.
