MAGENTA is a leading Social and Behavioural Change (SBC) agency that specialises in understanding human decision-making processes in order to design communications solutions for positive change in a variety of settings. We implement programmes across the Middle East, Asia and Latin America, using the latest in behavioural science principles and a rigorous approach to research, strategy, campaign design and implementation.

MAGENTA is currently supporting UNICEF Iraq in designing, adapting and delivering high quality Interpersonal Communication on Immunization (IPCI) training to their partners across several governorates of Iraq. The goal is to disseminate evidenced-based information to communities to improve population’s health outcomes.

General responsibilities

The Immunization and health curriculum development expert will support MAGENTA’s team in reviewing existing IPCI training package content and materials in Arabic. He/she will be responsible to improve it and condense it from 5 to 3 days, creating an engaging and practical training relevant to participants’ work in Iraq.

He/she will also participate in the design of a training aimed at religious leaders, incorporating messages on immunization and health.

Once training content is finalised for both target audiences, the Immunization and health curriculum development expert will deliver 9 training sessions of 2 to 3 days each in 4 governorates of Iraq (tentatively Baghdad, Erbil, Dohuk and Basra) between November 2022 and end of February 2023. He/she will be supported by a training co-facilitator as well as an international MAGENTA team member for some of the sessions.

Specific tasks:

  • Review existing training content and material
  • Propose revised IPCI training structure and improved content
  • Propose structure and content for the religious leader training, tailoring health and immunization messages to that specific audience (this will require using Quran messages related to health).
  • Prepare revised training content and supporting materials for both training components
  • Deliver five 3-day IPCI training sessions
  • Deliver four 2-day training sessions for religious leaders
  • Participate in training report writing as requested by the team

Requirements and Competencies

Education:

  • Health related degree

Experience:

  • 8-10 years of in-depth immunization and health communication experience (in the field of communication mobilization, frontline workers or government workers’ training etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience designing and adapting health messaging training curriculum, preferably in the Iraqi context
  • Demonstrated experience conducting training for a variety of audiences
  • In-depth understanding of the Iraqi context and health stakeholders

Interpersonal skills:

  • Ability to adapt to the level of each audience
  • Good sense of humour, personable and demonstrated ability to mobilize and inspire audiences when conducting training
  • Ability to convey personal experience, using contextually relevant examples during training.
  • Ability to work independently with a remote international team

Working Conditions

  • Home-based assignment
  • Involves attending meetings with MAGENTA team members and possibly UNICEF
  • Requires travel to different governorates to conduct training
