Business Support Officer- Public Protection

We are looking for two motivated, proactive and organised individuals to join our Business Intelligence and Information Management Team, based within the Environment and Climate Change Directorate. These are additional posts which have been introduced to increase the capacity within the team. The team carry out a range of duties to support services throughout the directorate, but the primary function is to manage responses to Councillor Enquiries, MP Enquiries and Freedom of Information Requests.

Some of the duties you will be required to undertake include:

  • Log and acknowledge enquiries received from Councillors and MPs who represent the Kirklees area.
  • Initial triage of any query, to identify best route for resolution.
  • Identify the nature of the enquiry and liaise with the relevant service areas to develop an appropriate response to the enquiry.
  • Monitor casework to ensure that responses are received from the relevant services in a timely manner.
  • Craft responses to enquiries, taking information from multiple services and sources to create a combined response which reads well, is easy to understand and covers all questions asked within the original enquiry.
  • Assist other service areas in relation to providing updates or information to Councillors and MP’s.
  • Assist with preparing information required by services with regards to Ward Meetings, Questions to Council and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Assist with the preparation of management information associated with Councillor and MP enquiries.
  • Provide support with regards to Freedom of Information requests and Subject Access Requests as and when required.

We are looking for people with a ‘can do’ and flexible attitude. You must be able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, along with excellent communication and organisational skills. Ideally you will have an inquisitive mind and experience in undertaking research and producing well written information. It is essential that you possess excellent customer care skills and good IT skills and that you are familiar with a variety of computer packages in particular Microsoft Office, and that you are able to demonstrate business and administrative skills to NVQ Level 3.
