Our work builds on the heritage of charitable engagement of Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer, the two brothers who founded the clothing retailer C&A in 1841. We’re currently in search of a seasoned Business Manager who can do more than just manage – the Business Manager will serve as a crucial support resource and advisor to the CEO. This role is an interesting next step in a career of a candidate with a consultancy background or a similar position as a current Business Manager to a CEO or Business Line Manager.

Our ideal candidate is ready for a second or third step in their career and excels in translating complex business information into clear and accessible proposals and is eager to grow into a pivotal sparring partner for the CEO and management team.

To excel in this role, the Business Manager will need to operate with a high degree of autonomy and is able to maximize personal effectiveness in a highly demanding environment. E.g. prioritizing tasks and taking the lead in liaising with members of our management team, as well as key stakeholders both within and outside the organization. This may even extend to interactions with family members, underlining the significance of building strong, lasting relationships.

Given the multitude of stakeholders involved, it’s paramount to approach every interaction with a high level of political sensitivity. Navigating these complex relationships with finesse ensures that decisions are made with thoughtfulness and a global perspective in mind.

Qualifications

  • The role is strategic in nature and includes related operational responsibilities, working closely with the CEO en EA.
  • Strategic advisor to CEO: an initiating role in advising on, setting up and executing initiatives to strengthen the Management Team and support its effectiveness.
  • Responsible for planning and prioritizing workload of the specific business line to ensure smooth functioning of business
  • Supports the CEO in preparing for key meetings (information gathering, content development, annual budgets and process organisation)
  • Advisor to the Management Team: understanding complexity of issues, guiding discussions, developing and embedding supporting processes and supporting the meetings in cooperation with the EA.
  • Liaises with stakeholders, assesses and prioritizes their requests, manages interaction and understands issues at stake
  • Participates in working groups as the CEO’s representative; pro-actively identifies opportunities for engagements or issues which need resolution; reviews key issues and prepares accordingly
  • Operationalizes strategic decisions and process decisions; oversees core processes and ensures their functioning and supports in (re-)design where needed
  • Liaises with other business managers and colleagues in regions, operations and other departments as needed

Experience and skills

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years’ of work experience in a complex international environment, preferably a consultancy environment
  • Experience in philanthropy is considered a plus but interest in the work we do is more important
  • Experienced in organizational development and team effectiveness enhancement is a plus
  • Outstanding organizational sensitivity, and management and prioritization skills with a strategic and challenging mindset
  • Insight into intercultural communication and settings
  • Very hands-on mindset as well as strategic thinking capacity
  • Fluency in English; strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong and stable personality with style flexibility, able to choose direction, keep track, and engage others
  • Experience working with C-levels is a plus

  • Offering a salary between €80.000 and €100.000 depending on experience
  • Must be eligible to work in the Netherlands.
