We are looking for a researcher/writer to help with Business and Human Rights-themed advocacy, including by producing ALTSEAN’s online publications – our monthly CoupWatch, thematic trackers and other briefers. The role is officially designated Business and Human Rights Project Intern (to be upgraded to Business and Human Rights Project Officer after probation), therefore the successful candidate is expected to have a key role in ALTSEAN’s BHR-related publications, advocacy and trainings.

This position will give the successful applicant the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of ALTSEAN and activists who work in challenging conditions for human rights in Burma. This position will suit an individual who is highly efficient, comfortable working in close collaboration with a team of diverse people, willing to work long hours and able to observe the discipline and security protocols of the office, while maintaining a sense of humor.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary for this role. Experience in the Burma movement or other human rights movements will be an advantage.

DUTIES

· Research and write summaries and sections for ALTSEAN’s CoupWatch reports and thematic trackers.

· Produce briefers, factsheets, and other advocacy tools for ALTSEAN and its partners.

· Help update modules related to ALTSEAN’s training programs related to Human Rights-based Economic Development (ELT), Business and Human Rights (BHR), and Conflict, COVID-19 and Climate Change (CCC).

· Design, contribute to and/or participate in strategic interventions, advocacy and other activities linked to Business and Human Rights.

· Other duties as directed by the Coordinator.

TERMS OF CONTRACT

· Minimum duration of 12 months. Tenure and remuneration will be upgraded and extended subject to work performance, team dynamics, and available funding.

· Minimum of 40 working hours per week, excluding public holidays.

· 12 days annual leave per 12 months, or pro-rata equivalent.

· Breakfast and lunch available at the office on workdays.

· Compliance with the Staff Manual, including security protocols. Compliance with COVID-19 policy that requires all staff to be fully vaccinated and boosted.

· Reimbursement for COVID-19 related services required for arrival in Thailand, including PCR tests, inbound insurance, hotel quarantine to a maximum of THB 25,000.*

· Basic travel insurance covering one year in Thailand.*

* Please closely consult and coordinate with ALTSEAN management to obtain prior approval before purchasing, or to coordinate purchase by ALTSEAN. Retain receipts and relevant documentation for submission to ALTSEAN.

During the 3-month probation period:

· The successful candidate will be provided with subsidized accommodation during this period. Interns who opt to stay at their own accommodation may be given a small transport allowance in lieu of accommodation subsidy.

· Monthly allowance of THB 11,000.

· Reimbursement of visa expenses to a maximum of THB 10,000.*

After satisfactory completion of the 3-month probation, the intern will:

• Receive a monthly living allowance of THB 11,000 and a monthly visa allowance of THB 13,000 on a cash-in-hand basis (THB 24,000 nett per month).

• Be able to claim reimbursement to a maximum THB 500 /month for health expenditures (subject to production of receipts for allowed expenditure – medical, dental, medicines, vitamins, contraception, and therapeutic massage). Unused health allowance can accumulate and be claimed for larger bills incurred.

• Have their job description upgraded to Business and Human Rights Project Officer.
