The Khana Group (TKG) is a leading social impact research, evaluation, and data collection firm with a mission to improve evidence and impact with data. The firm has offices in Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, and the US and conducts rigorous research and evaluations across the continents and has worked on over 300 projects with over 100 clients and partners, across over 25 countries in Africa.

TKG is expanding and seeking a remote (with travel requirements) Business Development Manager (BDM) to lead and support new business development efforts, from capture planning and bid tracking to proposal development, submission and follow up. The BDM MUST have experience supporting or leading business development efforts for USAID and other international donor organizations.

Responsibilities

As proposal lead, oversee and manage all aspects of the proposal development processes – from capture to scoping, development and submission.

  • Prepare bid overview sheets, tracking of bid – no bid updates, and communicating bid results to technical and leadership teams.
  • Conduct market research to identify and evaluate specific business opportunities and market trends.
  • Manage and oversee the development of proposal components, including log frame, theory of change and work plan, in collaboration with the technical team.
  • Draft non-technical sections of proposals and shape technical narratives for coherence and completion.
  • Draft component of proposals, including Past Performance, Corporate Capabilities, Staffing and Management Plan, Country Context, and Security Plans.
  • Coordinate and prepare expressions of interest.
  • Recruitment of staff and consultants for on-going projects and bids.
  • Coordinate proposal efforts, including recruitment, partnering, and production.
  • Manage contents of corporate website and marketing materials to ensure coherence and completion.
  • Coordinate with cost proposal team to prepare cost proposals.
  • Liaise with partner organizations on business development related activities.
  • Recommend membership organizations that TKG should be a member of.
  • Coordinate and support business development meetings.
  • Format CVs, bios, and past performance information for proposals, marketing materials and website.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimal Requirements

  • MUST have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the international development sector.
  • MUST have a minimum of three (3) years of recent business development experience with USAID, the World Bank, international development contractor, an NGO or other donor and development agencies.
  • Proven success in writing or supporting the creation of winning proposals.
  • Experience with business development and proposals for USAID opportunities and other donor agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify emerging business trends resulting in strategy recommendations to senior management.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, program assessment and program design across sectors, institutional capacity building, human resources, performance improvement, institutional development, research, data collection, monitoring, and evaluation in a developing country setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to and build partnerships with customers and within a firm/corporation.
