We’re looking for a person with extensive experience in working with bi-and multi-lateral government donors and foundations in Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in East and Southern Africa.

Hivos is seeking a seasoned Business Development Manager to join its Business Development team. In this role, the manager will use expert communication skills and a keen sense of initiative to spot fundraising opportunities, develop relationships with potential donors, and manage different outreach activities (presentation, events). By coordinating events, writing proposals, the fundraiser will hone? speaking, writing, and leadership abilities while moving Hivos closer to its financial goals.

The ideal candidate will be motivated, professional, and organized and have a knack for research/donor intelligence. We’re looking for someone who believes in the mission of Hivos and has exceptional drive for furthering our fundraising efforts as well as strategizing and delivering on new ones.

Objectives of this role

  • Promote awareness of the organization’s mission and work, specially in the field of Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Cultivate a network of dedicated donors and volunteers
  • Spot new fundraising opportunities
  • Plan fundraising initiatives to meet financial goals
  • Form strong relationships with external stakeholders
  • Ensure major donors, both foundations and government donors are satisfied and kept in the loop

Responsibilities

  • Effectively convey Hivos’ mission, vision, and programs to potential donors
  • Coordinate and lead Hivos’ proactive outreach towards donors focusing on the African continent
  • Significant contributing to the financial target of Hivos
  • Leading and guiding proposal/consortia teams
  • Write and reviewing proposals
  • Organize fundraising events in collaboration with program and communication colleagues

Required skills and qualifications

  • At least six years of experience in business development, sales and marketing
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Technical knowledge and skills in Business development processes and procedures, both internal and external with donors.
  • Pro-active attitude both internal and external towards (new) donors
  • Ability to lead and motivate colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Passion for research/donor intelligence
  • Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning events

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Masters in communications, business, public relations, or related field
  • Competence with donor management systems
  • Substantial and proves experience in writing successful grant proposals, press releases, and fundraising letters
  • Confidence in public speaking
