World Vision USA is hiring a Business Development Manager to serve on the Custom Team within the Resource Development Division of World Vision USA.

Reports to: Director, Custom within the Resource, Mobilization and Collaboration Team (RMC)

Required experience: Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or equivalent work experience (eight years). Master’s degree in Health, Education, International Development or related technical discipline strongly preferred. In addition to education or education equivalent, requires work experience in international relief and development. Experience must include a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Experience with USG solicitation, foundations, or private donors is required; substantive relevant experience in proposal development for other multilateral or bilateral donors may be considered within the years of experience sought.

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the USA for any employer.

Travel: Up to 15% of time both in development and fragile contexts.

The Job:

World Vision is looking for a Business Development Manager to support our rapid growth in the international development space. This position will support the US-based Business Development and World Vision National Offices overseas, primarily supporting new private funding opportunities but also occasionally public grant bids. The position will accomplish the following:

  1. Position World Vision US and National Offices for anticipated funding opportunities.
  2. Coordinate and manage all components of the proposal development process, ensuring a high quality and timely submission.
  3. Manage post submission and lessons learned processes.
  4. Support the acquisition, program management and technical branding work of colleagues on other teams based on cross-functional business and annual work plans.
  5. Help carry out our Christian organization’s mission and strategy. Candidates must be in agreement with and help to enhance World Vision’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (Christian conduct, devotions, chapel, prayer, worship); incorporate WV Core Values into decisions within scope of role.
  • Identify and analyze relevant upcoming funding opportunities through collaborating with fundraising teamsn and advance intelligence gathering. Identify relevant technical, partner, and proposal development resources to use in pursuing new funding opportunities.
  • Manage pre-solicitation proposal preparations and bid planning, including: provisional go/no-go decision process, identification of partners and other scopes of work, development of win-themes, participation in pre-design meetings, and drafting sections of the proposal in advance of the solicitation, as appropriate.
  • Work with US and field based technical specialists and consortium partners to plan, coordinate and facilitate design workshops. Support field teams to collect relevant country and technical area information that informs design.
  • Ensure quality completion of inputs to proposal technical submission, including the setting, collating, and editing of proposal sections; managing internal proposal review process; coordination and quality-checking of partners(s)’ inputs to the technical application; and completing required proposal annexes.
  • Provide technical inputs to field and US-based finance officers to support completion of the cost application in alignment with the technical program design. Manage partners’ inputs to the cost application.
  • Support recruitment process to ensure identification and inclusion of qualified key personnel in proposals.
  • Contribute to collecting and sharing proposal development lessons learned after proposal submission.
  • For funded proposals, coordinate program design hand over to program manager(s).
  • Work collaboratively with team members when assigned to work as a member of a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain awareness of corporate goals, objectives, organizational announcements, and activities. Reference and follow organizational policies and procedures, seeking clarity as needed.

  • Demonstrated strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed, results-oriented environment at to meet established deadlines.
  • Proven ability to facilitate complex, technical discussions of participants with varied perspectives; co-facilitate design workshopswith the field, able to summarize and to identify action items and next steps. Demonstrated ability to distill large quantities of information into concise, salient points.
  • Strong analytical skills; able to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to visualize, articulate, conceptualize to develop strong proposals. Proven organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks successfully under tight deadlines. Strong interpersonal, communication and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledgeable of PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database applications.
  • Willingness and availability to travel internationally up to 15% of the time
  • Ability to travel internationally on short notice.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or equivalent work experience (eight years).
