About Us

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) is a policy and action research organisation promoting sustainable development and linking local priorities to global challenges. IIED has bases in London and Edinburgh, and in Amsterdam with IIED Europe. Strengthening the voice of vulnerable and marginalised people in the decisions that affect their lives has been a feature of IIED’s work for 50 years.

Our research highlights the complex nature of the systems that produce poor outcomes for people, and the way these systems are spread across scales and geographies.

We are currently seeking two Business Development Co-ordinators to join us on a permanent full-time basis working 35 hours per week.

The Role

IIED is expanding our Business Development Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a Business Development fundraising professional with experience of working supporting colleagues to produce high quality and donor compliant applications. The role requires experience of working with institutional donors, such as the EU, FCDO, OSF, and supporting colleagues through the application process and the production of application supporting documents, to secure income for international sustainable development research-based work.

We have two Business Development Co-ordinator posts, which are new roles within IIED, reflecting the organisation’s investment in Business Development. The role would suit someone with a collaborative and team spirit, who is excited by supporting research colleagues to raise income for ground-breaking research work. In the wake of COP27 & COP15, you will be joining us at a time when climate change is at the top of the agenda for institutional donors across the world, meaning your work will be directed at an engaged audience.

You will work very closely with IIED’s Business Development Manager, research colleagues and project managers, who are leading efforts to with a wide selection of potential donors, including trusts, foundations, multi-laterals, governments and commercial leads.

About You

To be considered as a Business Development Co-ordinator, you will need:

– Experience of working with trusts, foundations, multi-laterals, governments and commercial leads.
– Experience of supporting colleagues to develop six-figure plus, high-value proposals and applications.
– Experience of conducting research into institutional donors.
– Experience of CRM and project management systems.
– Proven capacity to work on your own initiative and with minimal supervision.
– Knowledge of sustainable development and climate change issues.
– An awareness of the actors, institutions and issues in the sustainable development arena.
– The ability to influence at a senior level.
– Advanced IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
– A degree (or equivalent).

The ability to speak another international language, in addition to English, would be beneficial.
