Job Synopsis: The Site Manager for Appalachia Build in Kimball is the overall construction project lead. They review applications, do site visits, and plan out repair projects for approved applicants. This includes budgeting, calculating and purchasing materials, and scheduling workers. They also supervise, train, and support all workers (staff and volunteers) on job sites. A strong construction/carpentry background and excellent management and communication skills are required to facilitate smooth project completion and a valuable experience for all.
MCC’s Appalachia Build program provides week-long service opportunities for young people and adults and longer-term job opportunities. The primary focus is housing repair for low-income households.

Job Details: Salaried Employee -Full Time at 1 FTE

Essential:
• Minimum 3 experience in Carpentry/Construction
• Minimum 3 years of project management, supervision or team leadership experience
• High school diploma or GED
• Knowledge of power tools
• Self-motivated to take initiative and work independently
• Flexible and adaptable to changing situations
• Good interpersonal skills to lead a team and communicate well with diverse stakeholders
• Sensitivity to and basic understanding of poverty issues in Appalachia
• Knowledge of construction safety
• Basic computer skills
• Time management skills
• High level of organizational skills
• Knowledge of risk management
• Ability to maintain a budget
• Excellent English verbal communication skills
• DOT Physical for CDL certification or willingness to obtain one
Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

Preferred:
• Work and/or living experience in rural cross-cultural setting
• Completed carpentry apprenticeship
• Experience in Microsoft word and Excel

Specific Tasks and Duties:

Site/Project Management Tasks: 60%

•Review homeowners’ repair applications, perform site visits, and decide which repairs can or cannot be scheduled.
•Manage all aspects of home building/repair projects including but not limited to: providing detailed estimates, creating project plans for clients, scheduling workers to complete the project, budgeting and purchasing materials, transporting materials and tools to/from job sites (including building refuse), and supervising the workers completing constructions tasks at the job site.
•Connect with homeowners to review repair plans and projects.
•Track project progress and analyze deliverables against requirements.
•Supervise all workers at all construction sites. Supervisory tasks include but are not limited to: hire and onboard staff, orient and train new staff and volunteers, manage schedules for staff and volunteers, and approve staff timesheets.
•Train staff and volunteers with varying skill levels on procedures such as: safety procedures, storage of tools/equipment, maintenance of tools and equipment, vehicle policies, job site expectations, process for acquiring materials, problem-solving, time-frame expectations for repairs, and more.
•Lead regular team meetings.
•Ensure a clean, safe worksite and that everyone at the job site has regular safety training.
•Maintain tools and materials used by Appalachia Build to ensure minimal waste and tool loss/breakage.
•Manage allocated annual budget.
•Be conscientious and respectful in conduct and communication with all. Create a positive team environment and meaningful volunteer experience.
•Be available to assist local individuals, churches or partner agencies in emergency home repair or other MCC activities when needed by arrangement with the Appalachia Program Director.
•Incorporate feedback to improve processes.

Construction: 35%
•Responsible for maintenance of all MCC property and vehicles in Kimball.
•Measure, cut, shape, and smooth carpentry materials.
•Ensure roofing, floorings, and drywall are compatible and level.
•Install Drywall.
•Fabricate rafters, partitions, stairways, and window and door frames.
•Connect with suppliers to purchase materials.
•Connect with construction professionals to contract out technical skills needed for repairs.
•Review preliminary and detailed designs/drawings.
•Purchase Materials and Equipment.

General duties: 5%
•Lead educational opportunities on the Appalachia community and devotions.
•Meet with Program Director and other staff throughout the year.
•Respond to work-related phone calls and emails.
•Attend and support all MCC Great Lakes meetings, gatherings and retreats as required
•Contribute all location budget information required to MCC administrative offices.
Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis

Supervision: Direct supervision of On-Call staff and Summer staff. Indirect supervisory responsibilities of volunteers and volunteer groups.
