This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic individual to be part of the Engagement and Public Information team that supports the government’s national full fibre rollout ambitions, with BDUK intervening in the least commercially viable areas of the country.

The Engagement and Public Information team works closely with the BDUK delivery teams as well as the wider DCMS Policy Teams and Ministerial and Parliamentary Support Team to ensure that all briefings, questions and correspondence are responded to enabling the public, Ministers and Parliament to have he most up to date and appropriate responses to their queries.

The Briefings Officer will play a key part in informing and advising these stakeholders who are crucial to BDUK successfully delivering Project Gigabit – the government’s £5 billion investment in connecting hard to reach communities to gigabit speeds. The post holder will be given the opportunity to progress their career, gaining a unique range of career development skills whilst supporting the delivery of one of government’s most high profile programmes.

The role will report directly to a Briefings Manager within the BDUK Engagement and Public Information team and will need to work closely with the department’s Ministerial and Parliamentary Support Team and Private Offices.

The Briefings Officer will support the Briefings Managers to ensure concise and informative briefings are drafted for ministers and writing ministerial speeches. Oversee briefing for parliamentary debates and select committees.

They will be responsible for ensuring an accurate record of all requests are appropriately recorded and stored for audit purposes. Monitoring all relevant KPIs associated with this area, creating a coordinated approach to information and data management within the team and wider BDUK.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with teams across BDUK to produce high-quality replies to Ministerial correspondence.
  • Working with teams across BDUK to produce high-quality replies to correspondence from members of the public.
  • Supporting with coordinating responses to Parliamentary Questions.
  • Managing the team’s mailboxes and workflow, identifying and assigning work to colleagues, triaging and logging requests as appropriate.
  • Logging and processing of correspondence on the DCMS correspondence and tracking system, as well as troubleshooting queries in the mailbox and, and identifying improvements to ways of working.
  • Working with other Business Unit functions and Departmental teams to make sure correspondence and briefing requests are coordinated and replied to by the appropriate Department within agreed deadlines.
  • Working with the Ministerial and Parliamentary Support Team to ensure the BDUK is meeting its response targets.
  • Any other reasonable duties and responsibilities considered appropriate by the management of the organisation.

The expectation within DCMS is that staff will normally remain in post for a minimum of 12 months for band C, 18 months for band B and 24 months for band A/AU and will not apply for DCMS roles on level transfer during that time.

This role can be based in London, Manchester, Darlington or Belfast. The hub locations are displayed on the job advert. Not all hub locations yet have confirmed office space – successful applicants will be expected to work remotely until this becomes available.
