About the position and the assignments

The IFRC and the Danish Red Cross are looking for a new colleague with a strong interest in and experience from working with the branch development, preferably with knowledge of the Red Cross Movement. The position will be leading the Federation-wide development on Branch Development, with a dedicated attention to Branch Development in fragile contexts. The position will be based in the IFRC Secretariat in Geneva, as part of the National Society Development and Volunteering Unit. You will work closely with Red Cross/Red Crescent colleagues globally, including IFRC, DRC and host national societies.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

Contribute to the development and rolling out process of the IFRC-wide Branch Development framework:

  • lead the development of specific learning and guide related to branch development in fragile context, which shall be integrated as part of the wider framework and guide,
  • contribute to the overall drafting process with a specific lens of branch development in fragile context,
  • support the development of a communication strategy to disseminate the framework and its guide, and its implementation process
  • facilitate learning and dialogue related to the framework and guide.
  • actively contribute to the Danish Red Cross Branch Development Working Group.

Oversee the Community of Practice development process:

  • analyse the outcome of the consultancy launched for the Branch Development CoP,
  • propose draft design for the Community of Practice,
  • lead its consultation and development process.

Improve the synergy among existing tools for branch development (such as assessment tools and platforms):

  • contributing to the analysis of existing tools,
  • lead the coordination among various stakeholders and facilitating the process to bring synergy among tools

Ensure operations are carried in line with the principle for branch development

  • engage with the operation and providing advice and support related to Branch Development,
  • carry out missions to individual NSs to support / complement Regional efforts
  • report to IFRC NSDV Manager and NSD Advisor (or equivalent focal point for Branch development) the lessons learned during the operations, including customized / developed tools that might be incorporated in the Branch Development guide

Contribute to an effective, high quality global NS development team

  • be a pro-active team member fostering a customer service-oriented culture, critical thinking and continuous improvement, innovation, high performance and cost effectiveness.
  • provide progress reports on results against objectives, and risk analysis.
  • foster a supportive and mutually respectful environment with colleagues in the Secretariat, Regions and National Societies to ensure a coherent IFRC NS development offer to all National Societies throughout the regions in line with the 2013 NS development Framework the 2019 NSD Compact and 2022 NSD Policy.
  • analyse trends, interpret key patterns from available datasets and systemic organisational weaknesses proposing approaches to respond to emerging needs in the areas of competence
  • establish partnerships with relevant organizations and institutions of higher learning and participate in forums through which to acquire new knowledge and ideas.
  • ensure that planning, budgeting and reporting are carried out in a timely and appropriate manner in accordance with the IFRC requirements, formats and standards.

Your profile

We are looking for a professional with at least 10 years of international experience with humanitarian and development organisations, and at least five of those years being exposed to the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement. Proven understanding of the National Society Development and Branch Development is a requirement. You are fully on top of the localization agenda and modalities and principles supporting localization. You have experience with project management and partnerships. You have excellent English language skills. French is considered an asset. You are a good communicator and a team player, but also structured, systematic and good at meeting deadlines. The position requires flexibility, the ability to take lead and independently drive processes and agendas.

The position is a full-time position with a contract period of two years. Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with Danish Red Cross’s collective bargaining agreement with HK and AC with a salary level between DKK 45.000 and 48.000 depending on experience and qualifications, including allowances and pension. The position is placed at the International Federation of Red Cross headquarters in Geneva.
