ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews seeks a Project Coordinator for Innovation, Diversity and Inclusion for a USAID-funded media development project in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) focused on supporting media partners in BiH to enhance the quality of their content production, facilitate adherence to journalistic standards, expand their reach and appeal to target audiences, improve their business practices to help them operate as viable enterprises, and increase their security from politically motivated lawsuits and cyberattacks. Across different activities, they coordinate innovation and learning components, as well as components working to create more inclusive and diverse media offering in the country. The position will be based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and will report to the Chief of Party.

LOGISTICS

Internews has field offices in Sarajevo. Ultimately, this role will be based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Wherever possible, we work to try to find solutions for international hiring that work for both the company and the candidate. This means that some of the particulars around the offer for a role will be dependent on several factors, and that the benefits and salary structure that apply to a position will ultimately be based upon the candidate’s location and where the role is hired.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include

  • Coordinate annual market assessments, identify, and engage relevant subject experts, work with Internews’ in-house experts to design TORs for research companies, media outlets and other project partners, tracking their progress and results.
  • Manage communications and inputs for the project’s advisory board to assist in identifying gaps in innovation, content diversity, and inclusion in the BiH media environment.
  • Provide reports to inform evolving priorities and adjustments to the Project’s design based on the identified gaps in innovation, content diversity, and inclusion.
  • Liaise with audience research companies; facilitate the utilization of audience data in all relevant activities; specifically, work with other Internews staff to ensure that this data informs the design and implementation of individual development projects for media partners.
  • Manage the Rolling Innovation Fund; identify and engage subject experts, speakers, trainers, and consultants among a range of relevant expertise providers: tech and IT community, media, creative industries, businesses, CSOs, activist groups and grass-root initiatives.
  • Coordinate with other Internews project staff to select and pilot media development projects pertaining to the creation of more diverse content to respond to the gaps identified by the market research.
  • Facilitate the creation and ongoing work of a peer support group for young female journalists; contribute to streamlining gender and inclusion throughout all of the Project’s activities.
  • Closely work with the Monitoring & Evaluation/Impact Manager to integrate research data into the Project’s reporting.
  • Contribute to the design and writing of annual activity plans, as well as quarterly and annual reports to the funder.
  • Maintain awareness of independent media issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina (especially online digital media); Keep up to date on the latest technology, analysis and business trends in media.
  • Establish and maintain working contacts with IT and tech community, relevant civil society groups and organizations, representatives of creative industries, as well as groups and individuals engaged in transformative and innovative actions at the nexus of civil society, media, and technology.
  • Contribute to all other activities that focus on diversity and inclusion, or have elements of innovative work including identifying relevant regional and international thematic experts to serve as consultants, trainers, mentors, and speakers

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Required

  • Learning and innovation enthusiast with at least 5 years of experience in media, civil society, technology, youth, human rights, rights of marginalized groups; experience working across several sectors highly preferred.
  • Experience with organizing and facilitating events/activities that aim to foster creativity and the emergence of new products/services (e.g., creative labs, hackathons, boot camps).
  • Experience working with media outlets, particularly digital or multiplatform outlets, strongly preferred.
  • Good understanding of the media environment, CSOs and technology sector in BiH.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial and inquisitive mindset.
  • Fluency in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and working proficiency in English are required.
