  • Purpose of Position

To provide victims and survivors of domestic violence (DV) with legal assistance and information for both criminal and civil issues; to provide community resources connections – shelter, DSHS, transitional housing, and job search services.

Participates in agency or community work teams, upon request, including committees, task forces, or event planning. Outreach and education to the community on DV topics.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

70% Legal Advocacy

Provide clients with general information and education on DV related issues, community referral information, legal referral information and assist in the filing of protection orders. The advocate will meet with clients to maximize

safety and assess their needs. The advocate will provide the DV Services Manager with monthly statistical reports. The advocate will also attend case management and shelter staff meetings.

15% Helpline calls, screenings and intakes

The advocate will provide phone support, assessment, and screening for

services. This includes documenting all phone inquiries, completing

screening tool, determination of client needs, arranging for the provision of

community, legal, or shelter services, and providing training to other staff

members on the helpline.

15% Outreach Education and Networking

The advocate will make connections within the community and provide presentations to support groups, local services agencies, local businesses schools and civic groups on the topics of DV.

  • Position Requirements
  • Bilingual (any language) preferred;
  • Completion of initial 20 hours of DV advocacy training;
  • Complete a minimum of 30 hours continued training per year thereafter;
  • Understands the dynamics of DV and SA especially within immigrant communities;
  • Ability to drive to different KWA and FJC office locations; has own vehicle;
  • Satisfactorily pass criminal history and references check;
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.;
  • Respect for all cultures, and ability to interact with diverse groups;
  • Experience in victim/survivor advocacy and crisis intervention/counseling preferred;
  • Knowledge of gender-based violence issues and their impact on individuals and families and experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma;
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of computers, internet searches, smartphone devices and other software packages;
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers, community and national partners;
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to domestic violence issues and trends preferred;
  • Knowledge of service area resources preferred;
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Educational Level
  • Must have High School Diploma; and
  • Some college or AA degree (any humanities discipline) preferred.

3.2 Experiences in Related Field

  • Minimum of two (2) year experience in social or human services preferred; and
  • Public Speaking Skills preferred.

  • Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking, standing, bending, twisting, reaching and driving.

  • Ability to work up to 40 hour week including some nights, weekends, and overnights.

  • Clarity of vision at distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
  • Far-range Vision:
  • Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
