In 2025, the global community will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) (1995), and 10 years of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. In accordance with ECOSOC Resolution E/RES/2022/5, The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will lead the Asia-Pacific regional intergovernmental review of the BPfA, in close collaboration with UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.
As part of the review process, ESCAP in collaboration with UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific will convene the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review from 19 to 21 November 2024. The conference is expected to reinvigorate political commitment to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Asia and the Pacific and build regional consensus on priority actions to accelerate the implementation of commitments made in the BPfA. The outcome will serve as the region’s input to the deliberations at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in 2025.
Recognizing the power of art to create awareness and catalyze change, ESCAP and UN Women aim to leverage the opportunity presented by the Beijing+30 Review to launch the ‘Art for Impact: Beijing+30 Digital Art Competition’.
ESCAP and UN Women Asia and the Pacific is hosting and digital art contest and an online and in person digital art exhibition from artists from across the Asia-Pacific region with pieces that entries that resonate with the themes of the 12 priority areas outlined in the Beijing Platform for Action, alongside other emerging thematic issues including digitalization, climate change, and the care economy. After the contest, the selected pieces will be exhibited at the © Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review conference venue, and winners will receive recognition during the high-level event.

Under overall supervision of the UN Women Asia-Pacific Communication Analyst, with direct reporting to the day-to-day supervision by Beijing+30 Communications and Advocacy Specialist, based in Bangkok, the consultant will coordinate the contest and curate the digital art exhibition online and in situ. The Exhibition is planned for 19-21 November 2024 in Bangkok.
Scope of work:
- In collaboration with UN Women, curate the final selection of works to be exhibited in November 2024.
- Conduct one-on-one outreach to artists selected.
- Oversee and guide the production of the digital exhibition catalogue.
- Support and advise UN Women’s exhibition outreach.
- Provide guidance and advice to UN Women as needed on matters related to the planning and successful execution of the exhibition.
- Complete report (no more than 5 -10 pages) outlining lessons learned.
The consultant is expected to deliver the following results.

Develop and Submit a Detailed Work Plan:
- Create and submit a comprehensive work plan outlining timelines, key activities, milestones, and coordination strategies for the entire curation process.
Curate the Digital Art Exhibition:
- Collaborate with UN Women to select the final artworks for exhibition during the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review (November 19-21, 2024).
Artist Outreach and Coordination:
- Conduct one-on-one outreach with the selected artists.
Oversee Digital Exhibition Catalogue Production:
- Guide the production of a digital catalogue featuring the selected artworks.
Support Exhibition Outreach:
- Advise and support UN Women’s outreach efforts to promote the exhibition.
Monthly Status Report:
- Submit a status report detailing progress in curation, outreach, catalogue production, and other areas.
Provide Guidance and Advice on Exhibition Planning:
- Offer strategic advice related to the successful planning and execution of the exhibition?.

Location and duration
The consultancy will be based in Bangkok. The time required for the consultancy is within the period from 1 October – 30 November 2024. No travel is required.
HARDWARE, SOFTWARE, AND COMMUNICATION:
The consultant must be equipped with a fully functional laptop, which must comfortably run Office 365 programs, using operating systems Microsoft Windows 10/11, or Mac OS X 10.11 or upward. The consultant must be reasonably accessible by email and telephone (preferably mobile). The use of reliable, internet-based (Skype or equivalent) is required.

Required Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Master’s Degree in arts or related field.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience and skills:
- A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in cultural/research work and in the field of curation.
- Proven track record in portfolio of exhibition work in exhibitions in international settings.
- Experience in implementation of successful public relations social media campaigns and press placement for high-profile art events.
- Previous experience working with the UN system is a considerable asset.
Language skills:
- Proficiency in English is required.
