Overview

It is the mission and intent of this position that the incumbent will manage the overall day to day operation, and long-term outlook of the banquet facilities. The Banquet Manager will help create a pleasant environment and experience for guests.

The Banquet Manager will have operational responsibility for the overall Banquet operation. He/she is overseeing the overall organization, insuring the implementation and consistency of the company standards.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership and support for all Banquet colleagues.
  • Trains, evaluates and schedules Banquet colleagues in accordance with the standards of the company policies and guidelines.
  • The ability to hire, train, motivate, discipline, direct, and supervise the work of the colleagues in the Banquet Department.
  • The ability to develop and maintain all training programs on a continual basis to insure a high degree of professionalism within the colleagues.
  • The ability to schedule all colleagues to maintain the service standards of Mandarin Oriental while operating within budgeted labor cost guidelines.
  • The ability to ensure proper care, security and maintenance of hotel equipment through proper supervision of service personnel.
  • The ability to maintain daily department maintenance program to include storage and operational areas and colleague appearance.
  • The ability to coordinate and insure the needs of the Catering department with the managers of interrelated departments.
  • The ability to prepare banquet checks with all back-up for collection at the end of functions.
  • The ability to attend regular catering meetings to obtain information of the upcoming contracted functions.
  • The ability to attend and participate in all required meetings on a regular basis.
  • The ability to organize and orchestrate any last-minute changes or details to functions.
  • The ability to post all contracted function sheets
  • The ability to constantly monitor the colleague’s appearance, attitude, and degree of professionalism to insure their strict adherence to Mandarin Oriental’s standards of quality service.
  • The ability to communicate directly with the hosts of functions and go over the details of the function.
  • The ability to directly oversee the actual set-up and service of contracted functions by giving specific menu information to the servers, by coordinating the timing of the events with the Chef and by assigning functions to the Setup Attendants and Banquet Servers to insure the success of the function.
  • The ability to conduct regularly departmental meetings and to provide a regular forum for improving departmental communication.
  • The ability to take an active role in implementing safety procedures and following up within the department.
  • Understand and follow the laws and guidelines for beverage service
  • The ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required by the management from time to time.

Requirements

  • Have a minimum of 4 year experience in the similar position, preferably in a luxury setting.
  • Flexible schedule is required, including evenings and weekends
  • Have excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Must be able to work in a high-pace and dynamic operation.
  • Must be detailed oriented, excellent computer skills necessary.
  • Have a pleasant, friendly and helpful manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills and communication skills are necessary.
  • Work in a safe, prudent and organized manner.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Able to consistently delight and satisfy our guest.
  • Able to handle guest requests in a detailed manner.
