Job Summary:

The Mortgage Loan Officer position is responsible for actively originating real estate mortgage loans for the secondary market. This individual must use sound underwriting practices and conform to bank policy and regulatory guidelines. This position will maintain a presence in the community through volunteer activities and actively seek realtor and builder referrals and relationships. Mortgage Lender will also actively promote all bank products and services to fulfill customers’ banking needs.

All Banco Sí team members should be bilingual and comfortable conducting business in both English and Spanish.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Exhibit a sense of urgency to provide the finest of customer service at all times and in all forms of verbal and written communications.
  • Actively originate secondary market loans.
  • Take ownership of each loan by overseeing the entire mortgage loan process while keeping the customer informed of the proceedings.
  • Be knowledgeable in secondary market guidelines and all secondary market loan products we offer. Must be able to advise applicants on which loan option is best suited for their needs.
  • Actively promote and cross-sell all bank products and services; refer to proper product specialists to fulfill customers’ banking needs.
  • Be active in the community by participating in civic clubs and/or being involved in community events and realtor/builder organizations.
  • Assist mortgage operations staff with clearing any investor purchase conditions on their originated loans.
  • Must be disposed to working independently and jointly with loan processors and underwriting in a team environment.
  • Responsible for processing any adverse action files in a timely manner and monitoring their pipeline for loans requiring action.
  • Assist Market President with department marketing ideas and implementation.
  • Perform all other tasks requested as they relate to the Bank and its functions.

Each Team Member is expected to be familiar with the legal and regulatory requirements and internal controls affecting his or her job responsibilities. It is the affirmative duty of each Team Member to carry out these responsibilities at all times in a manner that complies with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and internal controls. All Team Members shall be responsible for communicating upward, problems in operations, non-compliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions. Team Members must participate in required training on pertinent compliance laws and regulations as required by Signature Bank of Arkansas.

All Team Members will be committed to maintaining a high level of compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti Money Laundering, USA PATRIOT Act and Financial Recordkeeping regulations recognizing that all three acts are important tools in federal efforts to combat organized crime, terrorism and drug trafficking.

Education / Experience:

  • College degree (or equivalent work experience) required with emphasis in finance/business preferred.
  • Additional post-secondary education or training in courses related to the financial services industry is highly desirable.
  • 10 years of banking experience with a minimum of 5 years of mortgage loan origination experience required with proven customer service experience, preferably in the banking industry.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate courteously and professionally in both English and Spanish (both written and oral) before groups of customers, team members, and management of the Bank.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to utilize all necessary software applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to interact well with customers to include calm and professional reasoning with upset or confused customers.
  • Strong listening skills with the ability to recognize opportunities for selling or referring the customer for needed products/services
  • Organizational skills with ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge on all financial products.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team members, manager, customers, and the general public.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills to effectively relate to all levels of the Bank staff.
  • Sound reasoning and judgment skills with the ability to handle high-stress situations.
  • Must be self-motivated and work well in a team environment.
