We are seeking a full-time Aviation Systems & Human Factors Engineer Intern in Olathe, KS. In this role, you will be responsible for learning and training to conceive, plan, design, implement, and report on broad system level requirements and tests for complex integrated avionics systems that span several multi-disciplinary functions including human factors.

Essential Functions

  • Obtain an in-depth understanding of Garmin integrated avionics systems and possibly aftermarket products / mobile applications as well as obtaining a basic working knowledge of Garmin aviation user interface guidelines
  • Learn the team’s hardware and software tools and identify and make improvements for quality, efficiency, and scalability of the team services and processes as needed
  • Perform user interface reviews, system level bench testing and regression testing for software changes and assist in human factors evaluations for integrated flight deck programs and/or retrofit product lines
  • Perform usability testing of select software changes and new functionality
  • Assist in maintaining system benches and flight simulator labs including software loading and configuring for different airframes
  • Create software change requests that clearly define new features and functionality, identified software issues, necessary changes, and steps to recreate problems

Basic Qualifications

  • Completed coursework in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user centered design principles OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems

Desired Qualifications

  • Completed coursework in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Proficient using common rapid prototyping tools
  • Working knowledge of aviation, avionics, and applicable FAA regulations including a pilot’s license or equivalent aviation experience
  • Experience operating Garmin Integrated Flight Decks (e.g. G1000) or other Garmin aviation products
  • Relevant experience and/or training in an applicable high level software programming language
  • Previous experience working with avionic products
