What You’ll Do

The Ohio Industrial Commission is seeking a licensed attorney, preferably with Ohio workers’ compensation experience, to manage specific hearing process functions for the Columbus Region. Candidates must possess strong customer service skills and handle all communications with IC customers and staff in a professional manner. This position requires an individual who is detail-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to adhere to deadlines, prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

Under Administrative Direction Of Regional Manager, & Requires Knowledge Of Substantive & Procedural Law, Rules & Procedures Applicable To Operations Of Industrial Commission (IC) In Order To

  • plan, direct, & serve as IC hearing administrator in assigned regional /district offices
  • review work product & assist with the development & enforcement of policy affecting the hearing process
  • issue compliance letters upon finding of good cause, with or without formal hearing, in all of the following areas: suspension requests, requests for the deposition of BWC & IC physicians, the issuance of subpoenas
  • granting or denying of hearing continuances & cancellations, matters involving ORC Section 4123.522
  • request for pre-hearing conferences & any other matters that will facilitate a free exchange of information prior to the formal hearing
  • ensure that claim files are reviewed prior to hearing
  • ensure that medical exams are conducted prior to hearings on occupational disease claims & specifically manages the processing of permanent total disability applications
  • back up Regional Manager on processing & policy questions as needed
  • monitor hearing administrator Case Manager baskets to ensure timely processing
  • update information on CAS, ECM & Case Manager as needed
  • prepare or route claims for Ex parte orders
  • supervise lower level administrative, technical & support staff
  • perform other duties as required (i.e., conducts performance evaluations of lower level employees)
