Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo) in Rijswijk is the dedicated in-house asset manager for the Royal Dutch Shell plc group sponsored pension funds and insurance companies and currently manages around USD 100 billion of assets for its clients. SAMCo is supervised by the Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). The company is internationally oriented with clients in 10 different countries and approximately 175 employees. SAMCo’s objective is to provide high quality and cost-effective investment advice and asset management services to its clients. On behalf of its clients, SAMCo invests in fixed income, equities, and alternative investment categories such as private equity funds and other investment funds, all over the world. Specific parts of the activities are also outsourced to external managers. Continuous change in financial markets and regulations as well as the diversity of SAMCo’s clients and the products they invest in, make it a professionally challenging environment to work in.

We are currently looking to recruit an Assistant Controller Externally Managed Funds to join the Controlling Externally Managed funds team in the Controllers department. The Assistant Controller Externally Managed Funds will report to the Controller Externally Managed Funds as one of three assistant controllers and will primarily focus on supporting the overall controlling activities.

The team is responsible for providing control over investments that are managed by external asset managers. These investments include alternative investments such as private equity funds, real estate funds, infrastructure funds and hedge funds, and also liquid equity and fixed income funds and managed accounts.

What’s the role?

We’ll entrust you to:

  • Process transactions such as capital calls, distributions, subscriptions and redemptions in a tight time frame.
  • Administer valuations of alternative investments
  • Create reports for clients, internal departments and external regulators
  • Analyze annual financial statements of the externally managed funds
  • Provide ad-hoc assistance to the controller, CFO and portfolio managers on various topics
  • Initiate process optimalisations
  • Contribute to the setup of a team dashboard and automated reports in PowerBI

What We Need From You

As many of the following as possible:

  • Minimum bachelor of science or in business studies
  • Ability to always work accurately under time pressure
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Good verbal and written communications skills in English
  • Preferably experience in the asset management sector, especially the transaction process related to investments in closed-end funds.
