The Elevator Pitch

We’re looking for an experienced associate with an ability to dive deep into research and data analysis – who’s also able to jump onto work in new areas and can dive right in. The Associate will be able to work on programs spanning DG’s priority areas – including the health and agriculture sectors. Programs are primarily multi-year, multinational grants, funded by foundations or multilateral institutions, focused on making data more accessible and useful.

In this role, you will work on a few of Development Gateway’s largest programs; working with teams of experts all over the world to present data and research in easily consumable formats for decision makers and advocates. You will produce highly polished written outputs which will be used in DG’s program deliverables. You will also be asked to periodically conduct some information research into new areas of expertise for DG.

The Work You Get To Do

  • Conduct data analysis on primary and/or secondary data, including advanced statistics and calculating weights
  • Conduct thorough online research to collect literature/data/ information related to tobacco control and agriculture.
  • Evaluate data sources, articles and reports to identify which are and are not reliable.
  • Summarize academic literature for non-technical and non-academic readers and assist in writing fact sheets, policy briefs, and one pagers. Write explanatory text to help contextualize data/information.
  • Collaborate with project managers in writing questionnaires, designing survey protocols, and supporting the set up of key informant interviews
  • Assist in reviewing validity of data collected in questionnaires/surveys
  • Other duties as assigned by the Data Manager/Research Coordinator
  • Estimated international travel at 15%

Required experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Candidates from all academic majors encouraged to apply.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience or 2+ years of work experience with a Master’s degree.
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience conducting research, analysis, and/or literature reviews required.
  • Experience in collecting primary data including designing questionnaires and research protocols
  • Excellent English writing skills, able to write high-level analytical products clearly and accessibly.
  • Strong organizational skills and able to handle a broad and unpredictable workload, meet deadlines and work under your own initiative, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Track record of working with diverse team members in a global environment.

Nice to have experience:

  • Ability to work fluently in written French strongly preferred
  • Experience with agriculture research topics, in particular digital finance, market linkages or supply chains for specific crops
  • Experience in public health, in particular tobacco control or other non-communicable diseases
  • Experience working with governments and/or international organizations
  • Experience working with data from the African continent

Position details:

This position is worldwide and remote. GMT +/- 3 preferred but not required. This position will be full time.

This position will be contracted with on a consultancy basis, which does not include benefits, but offers competitive hourly pay. The projected hourly consultancy rate for this position is $25-28.
