Reporting Officer reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities

– Contributes to the timely flow of information to, from and within the Executive Office, the rest of the Agency, as well as to external stakeholders; undertakes research and provides preliminary advice to the Executive Office on various regional political and social issues, Agency-related operational and policy matters, development and humanitarian assistance, with special attention to reviewing diverse documents and reports submitted to the EO for approval and clearance; presents information gathered from diverse sources; contributes to the design of data collection instruments; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions. – Acts as the Executive Office’s focal point for coordinating the development and review of reports drafted by the Executive Office or other departments within the Agency; this includes participating in the development and oversight of a reporting monitoring mechanisms for the Executive Office; – Acts as the Executive Office’s focal point with the External Relations and Communications Department, ensuring colleagues are kept abreast of updated information for public dissemination (statements, reports, FAQs, etc) ;

– Supports the development of internal and external communication from the Executive Office, including messages to Palestine Refugee communities, UNRWA staff, donors and host governments, UN bodies, and the general public. – In support of the EO’s Strategic Communications role, monitors and analyses current events, public opinion and the press; identifies issues and trends, and advises on opportunities to promote advocacy in accordance with the Agency’s strategies; contributes to advocacy and visibility activities by drafting tweets, reviewing media and other public outputs for accuracy; develops advocacy plans and analyses the impact of materials published, monitoring and reporting on feedback;

– Provides secretariat support to the efficient running of Agency internal governance mechanisms, including the Senior Management Team and Executive Advisory Group.

– In support of Agency-wide functions, acts as the Secretary of the Headquarters Committee on Procurement; Competencies UN Core Values of Integrity, Professionalism and Respect for Diversity, and Core Competencies of Communication, Working with People and Drive for Results apply by default. – Relating and Networking – Planning and Organizing – Analyzing – Learning and Researching – Applying Technical Expertise

A university degree from an accredited educational institution in international relations, social sciences, public/business administration, communications, journalism, humanities or a related field.

Job Specific Qualifications

Work Experience – At least four years of relevant professional experience in drafting reports, correspondence, briefing papers, or advocacy publications (Required). – A minimum of 2 continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number (Required). – Previous experience working with the United Nations, especially in support of executive management (Desirable). – Knowledge of contemporary political and social issues of the Middle East (Desirable).

Languages

– Excellent command of written and spoken English. – Knowledge of written and spoken Arabic is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

Type of Contract and duration: 2 years, with the possibility of further extension. The Associate Reporting Officer may be required to travel in the Agency’s areas of operation.
