Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Data Science for Health Outcomes Research Full-time NEW

The Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE), within the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at The University of British Columbia, is seeking an outstanding individual for a faculty position in Data Science, with a focus in health outcomes research. This is a tenured (Associate Professor) or tenure-track (Assistant Professor) position, with the academic rank to be determined in accordance with the candidate’s experience andproductivity. The Faculty has a well-funded and internationally renowned research program in Health Outcomes that provides a stimulating and highly collaborative environment. Currently, CORE faculty work extensively with population-based data using traditional data linkages and biostatistical methods. However, the increasing availability of structured and unstructured data has created new opportunities in health outcomes research, andcapitalizing on this affords an outstanding opportunity to expand the methodologies used (e.g. machine learning) to extract new knowledge and insights from such data. The Faculty considers this position as a strategic recruitment with high potential for synergy with the data-rich environment of British Columbia and Canada, and the diverse and productive health outcomes team within the Faculty.

Candidates for this position will hold a doctorate in data science, statistics or biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, with significant postdoctoral research experience and, for appointment at Associate Professor, a well-developed and internationally competitive research program. Thesuccessful candidate will have clearly defined expertise in at least one area of data science (e.g., data-driven discovery, data-informed policy, data visualization, predictive analytics, machine learning, causal inference, deep learning, artificial intelligence) as it relates to health outcomes research.

The successful applicant will develop and maintain a strong, internationally recognized, innovative research program in the substantive field of health outcomes, as demonstrated by an outstanding record of publishing impactful work in leading journals. The ability and drive to build partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders and to provide national and international leadership in the field is essential. Successful candidates will have strong leadership skills and an ability to integrate easily into a multi-disciplinary research environment. Applicants must have demonstrated excellence, or the potential for excellence, in teaching both at the undergraduate and graduatelevels with the potential to attract excellent trainees, including graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. The appointee will have evidence of, or the ability to attain, success at obtaining extramural funding for appointment at the Associate or Assistant Professor level, respectively. An Associate appointment in the Department of Statistics or the Department of Computer Science at UBC may also be possible.
