Context

MSF is a non-profit, international, independent, medical-humanitarian organization providing assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. MSF’s teams are made up of health professionals, logisticians and administrative personnel, guided by medical ethics and the principles of impartiality, independence and neutrality. MSF was founded in 1971 in Paris by a group of journalists and doctors. Today, it is a worldwide movement of more than 42,000 people, including staff in headquarters and in the field.

MSF Switzerland was created in 1981 and it is headquartered in Geneva. The Philanthropy Unit is one of the seven units at the Communications and Fundraising Department. To ensure a good geographical coverage of the Swiss fundraising market, the Unit is divided into three offices: Geneva, Zurich and Lugano. The Unit’s mission is to strengthen MSF’s relationship with its private major supporters, including wealthy individuals, companies, foundations, and other philanthropic organisations. It also manages grants and donations from Swiss cantons and communes.

Mission

In order to develop the activities of fundraising, Médecins Sans Frontières is looking for an associate philanthropy advisor for Swiss Romandie. His/her main missions would be:

· Stewardship of smaller foundations and of corporates (1toFew approach)

· Prospect research

· Philanthropy System Support (DREAM key user for the unit)

· Cultivation and stewardship of a few donors who require a 1to1 approach (foundations, corporates, individuals, cantons/communes)

Your responsibility

With the Team Coordinator, s/he’s responsible for raising funds by implementing a newly developed one-to-few strategy for foundations and corporates, offering donors an interesting variety of interaction opportunities that drive engagement and growth. This is a new position, created in order to allow for the team to further grow income for MSF’s social mission from French and English-speaking organizations based in Swiss Romandie and abroad.

The associate philanthropy advisor will be also in charge of the prospect research for Swiss Romandie, focusing on individual major donors more specifically.

In addition of securing funds, s/he will be the focal point for the philanthropy unit to the data system unit and will be particularly involved in the development and implementation of the phase 2 of the fundraising database.

Strategy and action plan

· Together with the Team coordinator: support and implement the One-to-Few strategy and plan of action to maintain a good relationship with foundations, corporates and cantons/communes and upgrage their annual donations

· In accordance with the Team coordinator: support the overall strategy for corporate fundraising in Switzerland, including the Due Diligence processes and Gift Acceptance Policy;

· Support the development and implementation of the prospection and the acquisition strategy for Swiss Romandie.

· In accordance with the unit’s action plans and budget, plan and monitor the income of the allocated donor portfolio

· Contribute to the strategic mapping and general annual plan of action of the Communications and Fundraising Department.

One-to-Few approach

· Cultivate and steward foundations, cantons/communes and corporates that require a 1tofew approach

· Liaise with the marketing team to coordinate the sending of mailing

· Solicitate the support of these supporter based on their wish and their agenda.

Prospection, acquisition and qualification

· Identify potential major donors in the existing database and in the Swiss landscape

· Closely liaise with the Middle Donor manager to identify and upgrade Middle Donors

· Qualify each Major Donor and Major Donor prospect

· Together with other team members, establish the first contact with new potential Major Donors, including high-potential middle givers and other prospects, including ultra-high-net-worth individuals, to secure significant future support for MSF’s work

Qualification, cultivation and stewardship (1to1 approach

· Manage a small mixed portfolio of Major Donors

· Is accountable to deliver the best possible experience to MSF key donors in order to increase their engagement.

· Prepare and facilitate one to one meetings, calls, presentations and other meaningful interactions with Major Donors or representatives (lawyers, wealth managers, etc.)

· Ensure that the nature / identity of donors is in line with MSF gifts acceptance policy.

· Ensure that the moves management runs smoothly, and donors are thanked and steward properly.

· Liaise with Writing Officers for the preparation, including proof reading and editing, of project briefings, reports, proposals, slideshows, infographics and any other creative way of presenting MSF and its mission to high-net-worth individuals.

Philanthropy system support

· Be the focal point for the Philanthropy unit for all questions related to the fundraising database

· Map the current and future processes of the philanthropy unit

· Collect DREAM improvement needs for the philanthropy unit

· Synthesise them for transmission to providers

· Meet with providers to explain the needs and ensure that they are translated correctly into functionality.

· Test the functionalities

· If the needs are not translated correctly, participate to their correct adaptation through different testings.

· Train the end-users

· Create DREAM manual for the unit

· Provide content for the Sharepoint minisite to be created on the use of DREAM

Others

· Ad hoc support to any administrative task related to the above

· Work proactively on transversal projects as needed in the Unit, upon request by her/his supervisor.

· Organize events and webinars for donors

Your Profile

Experiences

· Minimum a first professional experience in similar functions or in the fields of marketing/sales/communication/journalism or high-level relational skills, like public relations or wealth management

· High experience in using Microsoft Dynamics or other Customer Relationship Manager System

· Humanitarian experience: a plus

Education

· University degree in Business Management, Marketing, Communications, Political Science, Law, International Relations or equivalent

Skills

· Excellent knowledge of fundraising database

· Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft 365 environment (Word, Excel, Power Point) and databases

· Knowledge of prospection tools adapted to the Swiss market

· Good knowledge of the Swiss economic and social landscape

· Proven writing skills (drafting and editing)

Language

· Full proficiency in French

· Good knowledge of English (oral and written)

Terms of Employment

· Open-ended contract, 80%

· Working place: Geneva

· Ideal Starting date: 4th of July 2022

· Gross monthly salary: from CHF 78’474.- to CHF 94’384.- (salary commensurate with equivalent experience and internal salary grid)
