The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are an International Nonprofit Organization, dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We provide direct care for those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota with offices in Africa and the Middle East. In Kenya, we have offices and clinics in Nairobi, Dadaab and Kakuma.

Position Summary

The Associate Partnership Officer will play a critical role in the development and realization of country strategy. The role will support CVT’s development efforts in Kenya through partnership and donor development. This includes researching funders, coordinating meetings, and site visits with a variety of domestic and international funders working in Kenya, including international governments, the UN and other private local and international funding entities.**

Under the direction of the Strategic Partnership Officer-HQ, the incumbent will support identification of emerging trends, identify new funding opportunities and ensure appropriate tracking in line with CVT systems and standards.

1. Donor and Partnership Outreach:

  • Support CVT Kenya to build strong relationships with partner organizations, local donors, and stakeholder through regular meetings, letters of introduction/inquiry, phone calls, donor visits and site visits.
  • Conducts research on partner or donor background information and other information needed to develop partnership strategy and proposal design.
  • Participate in any donor visit as directed by the direct supervisors to gather information on strategy and present CVT’s work.
  • Proactively engage on a strategic basis with institutional donors at country level in order to identify key areas of potential cooperation, including programme funding.
  • Monitor, document and highlight new business development to ensure that CVT Kenya is abreast of new opportunities in line with CVT Kenya’s strategic focus.

2. Prospect Research:

  • Conduct research on potential donors including foundations, corporations, religious and civic organizations, bilateral and multilateral donors. **
  • Identify connections between donors and CVT Kenya staff. Attend funder webinars. Write funder summaries and document learnings.

3. Support for New Program Design:

  • Participate with supervisor and program staff, as appropriate, in supporting development of new programs and projects in order to expand CVT’s programming.
  • Draft proposals and concept notes for all CVT Kenya programs as needed;

4. Other Duties:

  • Participate in other department and organization-wide activities, meetings and trainings. Complete administrative responsibilities. Perform other duties

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project management, Business Administration, Economics or political science from a reputable institution.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as communications, public administration, international relations and Development Studies will be an added advantage
  • Relevant professional development programs that enhance skills in resource mobilization. Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in resource mobilization for large multilateral or bilateral agencies or international organizations primarily in Africa.
  • Proven experience in proposal writing and concept development.
  • Understanding of multiple donor policies and procedures.
  • Proven results-based donor relationship management.
  • Knowledge of development challenges and contexts in Kenya, in particular in Mental Health and Human rights programing.

Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Working knowledge of distance communication platforms (Zoom)
  • Strong written and verbal English skills, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
  • Interest in or commitment to human rights
