UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is recruiting an Associate Fintech Officer (E-Payments) – UNOPS LICA-9 position within the Supporter Engagement Section, Private Sector Partnerships Service.

Organizational Context

The Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sitting within UNHCR’s Division of External Relations (DER) is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector to support people forced to flee. UNHCR have developed a $1 Billion Private Sector Fundraising Strategy. This strategy focuses on both Individual Giving and Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) and identifies priority fundraising markets and regions.

Purpose and Scope

This role is part of the Fintech team positioned within PSP to support fundraising markets across the organization to offer expertise on various topics around e-payments. The Fintech team’s mission is to bring a centre of excellence on electronic payments (e-donations) to UNHCR; offer strategic, tactical support and guidance to PSP markets and partners to increase UNHCR income and reduce costs using diverse e-commerce platforms, conversion optimization tactics and tools; and consolidating processed volumes to benefit from economies of scale while complying to the highest standard of security, safe money-handling with respect to financial regulations and data protection laws.

The Fintech team is a team of 5 working remotely from various locations. We are looking for a likeminded dynamic, passionate candidate to join our team.

The role is aimed to bring fintech expertise to stakeholders within PSP and across the organization with particular focus on e-payments; offering guidance on payment analysis, managing disputes, fraud prevention, risk management, bank reconciliation, financial reporting; sharing latest trends on payments/technologies; offering training and capacity building; and contributing to the organization’s payment strategy.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Digital Marketing Officer (E-Commerce), the individual contractor will ensure to deliver the following requirements:

  • Daily monitoring of transaction statuses and performance to identify potential technical issues, fraudulent activities, or any anomalies
  • Support markets to prioritize, investigate and resolve payments issues and improve donors’ payment experience in concern with cross-functional partners and payment providers
  • Produce payments performance reports for fundraising markets aimed to increase number of donations/overall income to include acceptance rates, chargebacks and refunds, transaction volumes, payment gateway and payment service providers performance
  • Provide best practices to markets on managing disputes/chargebacks, risk management
  • Support different teams on tracking income correctly, to ensure proper attribution and allocation as per agreed earmarking with partners
  • Manage relationship with financial/payment service providers to identify business opportunities, resolve payment issues and financial tracking
  • Identify areas of income loss and devise cost cutting initiatives to reduce payment processing fees and other expenses impacting donors’ contributions
  • Work closely with the finance team and income recording team to ensure income is properly tracked attributed and allocated to their predefined cause
  • Define process to consolidate and monitor income from various sources to be presented comprehensively to various stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with the technical team to design and build an automated solution for accurate financial reporting processes and standardize processes across all fundraising markets
  • Keep up-to date with the industry’s security regulations, updates, best practices, and latest trends

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications.

Education:

  • University degree (BA) – preferably Financial Technology, Business Administration (Finance Major), Computer Science (minor Finance), Data Science, Computing, Information Technology, or related field of study is required

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3yrs (and 2yrs for master’s degree holders) of relevant experience in combination with the relevant university education
  • Extensive experience working with financial service providers, specifically payment gateways
  • Payment Processing, financial tracking, and reporting
  • Customer support on related topics

Desirable:

  • Experience working with International Organizations, Not-For-Profit and fundraising in particular
  • Experience working with various payment gateways, including: Worldpay, Stripe, PayPal, 2C2P, Buckaroo, PagBrasil, NETS
  • Experience building reports with Power BI and financial software
  • Experience with Math, Statistics and Data modelling
  • Knowledge of a programming language (Python, R, SQL)
  • Experience with PCI Compliance

Location

The successful candidate will be home-based.

Conditions

This position is initially up to the end of the year with possibility of extension for the full year in 2023. It is a full-time role starting from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
