Wellcome is a global charitable foundation established in 1936. Through our work we support science to solve the urgent health issues facing everyone.

Our perspective on health and how to improve it spans science, innovation, and society.

Between 2022 and 2032, we plan to spend £16 billion supporting science to solve the urgent health challenges facing everyone. We support discovery research into life, health and wellbeing, and we’re taking on three worldwide health challenges: mental health, infectious disease, and climate and health.

We foster collaborative and supportive research environments that give researchers across a range of disciplines – including physical and social sciences, and the humanities – the time and resources they need to be creative and make new discoveries.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

You will be leading the Government Relations and Strategic Partnerships Team within the Strategy area, reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer.

The team leads Wellcome’s political engagement, advocating for change in our world, and building the partnerships that help us reach our goals. Based in Berlin and London, we are comprised of the Global Government Relations Team, the European Government Relations Team and the Strategic Partnerships Team.

We focus on Wellcome’s four strategic programmes: discovery research, climate and health, mental health and infectious disease, and work closely with Policy and Corporate Affairs teams to deliver coordinated global political and cultural outreach. Our key stakeholders include governments and public bodies, multilateral organisations, the private sector and philanthropies.

  • Create political engagement strategies to further our goals in priority countries and through multilateral fora, such as the G7 and G20; Deliver targeted, high quality political engagement including behind the scenes advocacy and through global events, working with expert advocates in Policy and the Strategic Programmes.
  • Work in deep collaboration with Wellcome’s policy, communications and campaigns functions to ensure that political and partnerships work is delivered as part of coordinated influence programmes.
  • Ensure Wellcome’s work is underpinned by high-quality and timely analysis, evidence and intelligence on the political environment and our strategic partners.
  • Act as a senior representative and spokesperson for Wellcome and support other senior leaders in Wellcome, including the CEO, Chair and Directors of the Strategic Programmes, to deliver political and strategic partner engagement.
  • Shape and implement the prioritisation of target geographies for Wellcome’s influence work.
  • Provide ongoing strategic direction for this, including the future development of our international influence presence, as appropriate.
  • Empower a diverse team to deliver Wellcome’s political and partnerships work, supported by a supportive and inclusive work culture. Manage roles across the UK and Germany to flexibly to deliver these programmes, supporting the team to develop deep political and partnership expertise, and contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
