Organisational Background

This is an exciting time for UNHCR. The organisation has recently undergone a process of realignment which led to the creation of a new Supporter Engagement Section, in which this position sits. The Supporter Engagement Section comprises Campaigns, Individual Giving and Digital Marketing teams and operates within the broader Private Sector Parterships (PSP) section in headquarters (HQ). The function of PSP HQ, among others, is to support fundraising offices around the world with their national fundraising.

This position is within the Campaigns Team which is responsible for the strategy, content and delivery of global thematic campaigns and appeals, one of the key drivers of growth for the organisation. Campaigns are a prioritized and growing area of work due to their potential to raise significant income for under-funded areas of work and to help increase UNHCR’s brand equity. Current campaigns include Aiming Higher which funds scholarships for refugees, an annual winter campaign to help refugees survive harsh winter conditions, and an annual Ramadan campaign. The team also leads on an innovative new product called Connecting Worlds that connects donors directly with refugees and a number or shorter term appeals such as for food, birth registration and an appeal directly for our supporters who give via Crypto currencies.

The position

The Associate Campaigns Coordination Officer will report directly to the Camapaigns Officer supporting the team in the effective delivery of UNHCR’s global fundraising campaigns and appeals as well as reporting on the progress of the campaigns. This role will have a particular emphasis on individual giving and strategy to support this. The Associate Campaigns Coordination Officer will also provide administrative support to the team.

Duties and responsibilities

The purpose of this assignment is to assist in the effective delivery of global thematic campaigns as well as additional appeals with a particular emphasis on individual giving (IG) donors. The incumbent will work across the full campaigns portfolio to support campaign leads.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Support campaigns officer as campaigns focal point for fundraising markets including drafting email updates, responding to queries, seeking feedback.
  • Produce compelling presentations and briefing notes to update on campaign plans, progress and results.
  • Draft quarterly campaign newsletter for fundraising markets.
  • Manage a Share Point community of practice, through which the team shares relevant campaigns materials with fundraising markets, ensuring the site is up to date and accessible
  • Consolidate campaign inputs for UNHCR annual report and appeal
  • Track income across all campaigns and manage income dashboards
  • Provide support on earmarking of campaign income, including creating instructions for fundraising markets, ensuring that income is attributed to the right campaign
  • Manage booking of team and project group meetings and meeting tools (e.g. Teams/Webex), as well as managing agendas and meeting minutes
  • Curation of campaigns assets to the content library
  • Support team with annual planning process

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required

The ideal candidate will be required to have:

Education:

University degree in English, Communications, Advertising, Marketing, Fundraising or similar field.

Work Experience:

It is required that applicants have experience of fundraising from individuals through a range of

channels and through multi-channel campaigns. This should include experience of producing

successful campaign and appeal assets that have consistently met or exceeded targets. The

candidate must also have experience of providing administrative and strategic support to

colleagues.

Specifically this should include:

  • Minimum of 3 years fundraising experience ideally with a focus on individual giving (2

years with an advanced university degree)

  • Experience of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
  • Experience of working with creative and fundraising agencies to produce successful fundraising assets
  • Experience of managing administrative processes
  • Experience of working with and motivating multiple stakeholders ideally in an international setting
  • Experience of directly producing fundraising assets including webpages

Key Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent command of English (written and verbal)

  • Knowledge of UNHCR and its mandate
  • Technical and up-to-date knowledge of individual giving fundraising techniques, best practice and channels

Conditions

It is a full-time role from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
