About the project

Bangladesh has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Especially in poor and rural areas, the impact on the health system and livelihoods has been profound. Aiming to address the COVID-19 pandemic, marginalised and grassroots communities’ access to health care services and livelihood options, United Purpose is implementing the GIZ funded project “Mobilizing Rural Women Entrepreneurs for COVID-19 Response and Recovery in Bangladesh” at five districts. The key target groups of this project are members of low-income households including women and people with disability in particular. The intermediary target group are the rural women entrepreneurs operating the Women Business Center (WBCs) at their localities. The main areas of project are (1). Community awareness on COVID-19 prevention including COVID-19 symptom screening, health, WASH and nutrition; (2). Improve community health and nutritional status through remote consultation services and patient follow-up; (3). Support to smallholder rural farmers with on-demand expert consultation, weather-sensitive agro-advisories for improved food and livelihood security; (4). Support to Women Business Centres (WBC) with capacity development, provisioning of ClickHealth and nutrition monitoring and referral service.

Position Summary

United Purpose has developed over 400 women business centres across 10 districts linking over 2000 rural women entrepreneurs reaching out to 400000 women producers. A national level social enterprise with the objective of promoting safe food, healthy living and working towards sustainable planet under the banner of ‘Nari Jhuri’ is developed. As part of this role, United purpose is planning to recruit a dynamic business development and professional to strengthen market development for safe food by linking rural women producers to sensitive consumers at national level through innovative storytelling and developing market for agroecological products from women / smallholder producers/ entrepreneurs’ positioning them as frontline climate warriors.

The position requires clear understanding and skills on multi-sectoral programme and strategic approach to women’s entrepreneurship and business development in increasing women empowerment and community people’s access to services, value chain and market linkage, Business development, project management and stakeholder/community mobilisation. The position holder, s/he must have experience and skills on planning, implementation, budget management, monitoring and evaluation, mobilisation of stakeholders and community, team management and mentoring, reporting and documentation of the project’s impacts and results. S/he must have experience and skills in implementing multi-sectoral programme around women entrepreneurship and business development, value chain and market linkage, health, nutrition, livestock and agroecology.

1. Key responsibilities

  1. Narijhuri business development/ Marketing
  2. Develop marketing strategy and action plan for Narijhuri for next 24 months and implement the same.
  3. Develop digital marketing strategies/ supply chain and logistics management relating to procurement, sales and distribution agroecological products / services from rural entrepreneurs to consumers at national level as well as provide services required by the small holder/ women farmers in strengthening agroecological food system.
  4. Provide strategic and technical support to field teams in strengthening capacity of Women Business Centres (WBC) and women entrepreneurs and link with Nari Jhuri Social Enterprise platform;
  5. Grow the native poultry value chain of Nari Jhuri with a network of 100 plus micro incubators along with supply chain of sourcing fertile eggs, development of nursery of one day one old chicks to 3week old chicks, safe/ cost affective locally developed poultry feed enterprises as part of the value chain development.
  6. Provide strategic and technical support to field teams in strengthening WBC systems as strong WASH / DNI based enterprise based network leveraging potential opportunities in areas of WASH, Health and Nutrition.
  7. Develop systems for quality control and assurance of all Nari Jhuri products to ensure consumer/ customer satisfaction.
  8. Business development and market linkage for WBCs: Provide strategic and technical support to field teams to develop and execution of business development plans of WBCs, and identification of value chains and market linkage for WBCs and women entrepreneurs; Develop value chain assessment tools, guidelines and conduct assessment with due technical support from the line manager(s); support to field teams to track and keep record of WBCs’ business progress, and provide technical supports when required;
  9. Project management:
  10. Prepare and implement field-wise activity plans keeping coherent link with the PAIP and budgeted financial resources; Ensure district and field level activities are implemented in line with allocated financial resources and guidelines; Maintain progress tracking of field level activities and adopt contextual strategic approach to meet the set targets along with field teams; Ensure organisational and donor’s visibility during implementation of activities;
  11. Ensure setting up of health services including health safety measures for beneficiaries to minimize risk of COVID 19 transmission during implementation of activities at field level.
  12. Facilitate field teams/build network and work with local government authorities/ line departments/ market actors and local community leaders, for effective implementation at local level;
  13. Develop training modules, SBCC (Social Behavior Change Communication), IEC (Information, Education and Communication) and promotional materials on agroecological activities, climate change, Seed bank and livestock health services.
  14. Strengthening services and capacity of WBCs: Provide technical support to field teams in designing and conducting capacity building activities for WBCs and women entrepreneurs as per WBC capacity development plan. Support to field teams in ensuring WBC entrepreneurs to operate the applications such as Coronay Koronio, ClickHealth, GrowPlus, mERP, PraniRokkha veterinary teleconsultation, etc. and proper use of the provided equipment (such as ICT, medical and non-medical, etc.).
  15. Knowledge management, monitoring, reporting and documentation: In collaboration with M&E team especially M&E Specialist, document the project’s achievements, results and impacts; Prepare and submit periodic reports along with case studies and experience capitalisation documents;
  16. Others:
  17. Assist Project Coordinator in ensuring smooth management and implementation of the project, and team dynamic to achieve the project’s targets and purpose; Conduct regular visits to fields, documentation on field activities including project’s impacts and results, and submit reports to line manager timely
  18. Any other duties as assigned by UPB management
  19. Education and other qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in relevant subject preferably MBA (Marketing) with excellent communication / people skills;
  • Skills / experience with digital marketing/on line marketing desirable;
  • Effective communication, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Respect to cultural diversity and gender sensitivity;
  • Ability to work under pressure.

2. Experience

  • At least 4 years’ working experience marketing role with corporate sector or social enterprises in Bangladesh private sector or equivalent position
  • Experience in the field of health service, nutrition, community mobilisation, women entrepreneurship and business development, and marketing.
  • Experience in development of high standard SBCC and IEC material, training module, and promotional materials
  • Experience in community empowerment especially empowerment and leadership development of women and youth
  • Experience in working with divers-cultural background’s teams.

3. Language Skills Requirements:

Written and oral proficiency in English and Bangla is required
