Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Assistant to support the Development and Outreach team. This position is fixed-term, part-time (15 hours per week), and is anticipated to run from September 2022 through July 2023.

This position focuses on providing administrative support and is best suited for individuals interested in learning about HRW’s work and contributing to our development and outreach efforts. The Assistant will focus on assisting with event planning, maintaining the donor database, conducting prospect research, and supporting donor engagement. This position will report to the Miami Director.

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are currently operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may work remotely, but may be required to work from the Miami office occasionally. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide support for virtual and in-person events, including annual dinners, receptions, meetings, briefings and other events throughout the year by preparing invitations, managing RSVPs, liaising with external vendors, and assisting with other tasks as needed;

2. Maintain and leverage the donor database for our development and outreach goals by preparing donor reports, developing and utilizing donor stewardship tools, updating Florida donor and prospect records and information, and preparing and processing gifts from Florida donors;

3. Draft prospect profiles based on research into individual and foundation prospects;

4. Provide administrative support to the Miami team, including scheduling, preparing for and taking minutes at meetings, recording departmental finances, and processing invoices; and

5. Perform other responsibilities as may be required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is desired. Those currently enrolled in university courses are encouraged to apply.

Experience: One year of relevant work experience is preferred. Experience in database management or event management is highly desired.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English is required. Fluency in Spanish is desired.

2. Prior office or administration experience and proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications, especially Excel, are required; experience with Salesforce or other donor databases is highly desired.

3. Prior project or event management experience is highly desired.

4. Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple global locations are required.

5. Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are required.

6. The ability to work well under pressure and to manage multiple priorities, working effectively toward deadlines is required.

7. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including donors and external partners are required.

8. Basic skills in graphic design are desirable.

9. Strong interest in or experience with human rights issues is desirable.
