IRC

BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are affected by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC works with people forced to flee war, conflict and disaster and the host communities that support them, as well as those who remain within their homes and communities. At work today in more than 40 countries and 22 US cities, we restore safety, dignity, and hope to millions of people uprooted and struggling to survive. The IRC leads the way in harm to the home.

As part of a needs assessment conducted in 2017, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) found that families and individuals affected by violence and displacement were unaware of and unable to access quality support services and meet their basic needs. Even where services were available, lack of knowledge and fear of seeking help was widespread, with many not seeking services at all, but fleeing internally and increasingly externally. In response, the IRC is implementing integrated protection serving individuals and families who are highly vulnerable, including internally displaced persons, returned asylum seekers and refugees, women, girls, youth, community members LGBTQ and other people who have been victims of attacks,
