Job Purpose

To develop and support effective action on behalf of individuals and communities, including those at immediate risk and over the longer term, through the development of campaign plans and techniques, preparation of relevant materials, appropriate communications and advice to others in the International Secretariat and national entities

About you

You will be passionate about advocating for human rights and have experience in working with campaigns and research staff, with excellent communication skills. You will also have an understanding of principles of project management and a systematic approach to work in an organization. This role will have a key focus in the Asia-Pacific area and therefore experience and knowledge of this region is key.

Main responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with regional, campaigns and other IS teams, develop and manage an effective portfolio of casework from the Asia Pacific for campaigning worldwide:
  • Identify new short, medium and long-term cases for campaigning, within Asia Pacific
  • Deliver effective & ethical campaigning with and for individuals, communities and Human Rights Defenders at risk.
  • Support 24/7 mobilization and response for individuals, communities and HRDs at imminent risk:
  • Ensure effective communication about and for AI’s individuals work:
  • Provide authoritative advice and training to staff in the IS and national entities on effective and ethical casework, and case campaigning techniques, such as Urgent Actions:

Skills and experience

  • Excellent writing and editing skills: Experience of writing and editing English-language materials in a clear and concise way
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Able to work effectively as a member of a team; Able to establish good working relationships with colleagues from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Experience of campaigning and understanding of the essential principles of campaigning: Able to develop innovative and creative ideas, campaigning techniques and ways of working.
  • Experience in delivering training and presentations, experience in facilitating and coordinating workshops and international meetings.
