ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews seeks a Distribution and Engagement Specialist for the Media Program in Armenia, a media development project focused on strengthening the integrity of the information space in Armenia. The project will enhance the professional and organizational capacity of media outlets to strengthen their editorial independence and increase their reach and impact across Armenian society through quality content. The project will provide support to improve the financial viability of editorially independent media and help institutionalize a funding source for public interest media; advance media literacy efforts to empower citizens and civic and political leaders to consume and engage with information critically and understand the role of ethical media. The Distribution and Engagement Specialist will coordinate a Distribution Team and, as relevant, contribute to audience engagement and growth of media partners and content producers. The position will report to the Chief of Party based in Yerevan, Armenia.

This position will be based in Yerevan, Armenia.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Supervise a cadre of experts on the Distribution Team.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to select qualified media outlets and content producers for program-supported grants, stipends, and technical assistance.
  • Mentor and coach Strategic Development, Technical Development, and Content Production partners as well as partners under Objective 3 of the project (“Foster enabling environment for independent information flow”) that produce project-supported content to improve their ability to produce engaging and convergent multimedia content with the concept of “social media first” and streamlining such processes in their newsroom operations.
  • Draw on research and learning to develop strategies to improve partners’ engagement with audiences through social media; ensure that partners adhere to those strategies to meet their stated goals.
  • Alongside the Distribution Team, support project beneficiaries produce/repackage the stories and content pieces identified as most important, unique, and potentially viral on various online platforms.
  • Nurture relationships with media outlets and individual content producers in Armenia to identify potential program beneficiaries and extend the program’s potential reach.
  • Support program reporting, monitoring and evaluation data collection from partners, and other administrative elements as necessary.
  • Keep up to date on the latest technology, analysis, and business trends in the media.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience including 5 years of experience working as a social media marketing professional in areas related to online distribution, audience analytics, engagement and technical support to media outlets.
  • Relevant university degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Fluency in Armenian, good command of English
  • Deep understanding of the media sector in Armenia.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize a shifting workload, and meet deadlines.
  • General familiarity with political, economic, and social issues in Armenia.
