Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the emergency Senior Food Security and Nutrition Officer, the Project Assistant- Food Safety will support the implementation of ACTED’s food security and nutrition projects by providing close Assistant and monitoring of food safety and nutrition related matters to the programme and logistic teams.

  • Food Safety and Nutrition Specialist

Objectives

The role of the Project Assistant – Food safety is to support the safe and effective implementation of ACTED’s food distribution-related projects and to support the safe and effective implementation of ACTED’s food security-related projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Program Implementation

· Work with the Amman-based Nutrition Specialist to conduct strict quality checks for food supplies being procured by ACTED in northeast Syria

· Provide advice and support to the logistics team on the correct processes for the safe storage and delivery of food items

· Ensuring that guidance provided to ACTED on appropriate food testing methodologies are implemented in all food-related procurements

· Support ACTED’s Monitoring and Evaluation team on the monitoring of nutrition indicators at the field level

2: Reporting

· Ensure the proper documentation of all food quality checks; ensure that all relevant filing is properly organised, up-to-date and complete, and that it reaches the Amman capital office in a timely manner

· Support the Amman-based Nutrition Specialist in preparing north specific training materials and reporting

· Provide regular reports to the Nutrition Specialist on the progress of the implementation of activities and on observations made during the mission and collaborate closely with the AME unit as part of monitoring and evaluation activities.

3: Support Program team

· participating with the distribution team in demographical assessments.

· Facilitate the beneficiaries’ verification process.

· Enter the registered and verified beneficiaries’ information with support from distribution Officer

· facilitate the establishment of distribution points and ensure the alignment with ACTED’s standards

· Ensure the accuracy of collected information

· Ensure that all, beneficiaries list and all distribution-related documents are prepared properly

· Ensure timely reporting of achievements/ difficulties to supervisor

· Other duties will be assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

· High school degree or higher

· Knowledge of safe storage practices for procured food rations

· Experience in overseeing food safety and quality checks, including the sensory examination and the use of laboratory testing of samples.

· Academic/professional qualification in public health and/or nutrition

· Good attitude and proven discipline

· Excellent communication skills, both, verbal and technological

· Ability to work well and punctually under pressure

· Strong negotiation skills, and rooted knowledge of cultural context

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

· Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours.

· Strong computer and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

· An experience in food distribution in general.

· Excellent Arabic skills, English is an asset
