In a supportive and supervised environment, you will gain practical experience in important aspects of archival work through processing, preserving and making accessible archival records.
This is an ideal position for a graduate student enrolled in a Master of Information Studies with a specialization in Archival Studies or a related field (undergraduate students are eligible and encouraged to apply as well).
Reporting to the Government Records Archivist, you will complete three projects and experience a range of archival tasks including:
- Physically arranging and describing bodies of records
- Assisting with conservation
- Assisting with digitization
- Assisting with reference service
Note: Working conditions will follow the Government of Alberta Health recommendations
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled and returning to a post-secondary undergraduate or graduate degree program full-time in September 2022
- Enrollment in a Masters of Information Studies with a specialization in Archival Studies is preferred
- Between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Demonstrated ability using Google Workspace applications
- Familiarity with archival standards like the Rules for Archival Description
- Ability to establish priorities and effectively handle multiple tasks with attention to detail
- Ability to self-motivate and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Experience in archives or related field is an asset
- Familiarity with history and archives is considered as an asset

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary Range: $19.749 – $25.135 (Hourly)
